Magazin: Retro #3 published
Since this week the third release of the Retro magazine is available in stores. An item overview is given under the title link. The official press release is listed below:

About Hackers and Heroes

The fascination of computers and the number of those who are using them full of enthusiasm was increasing within the seventies. Small groups came up which were even occupied with the world of computers aside the universities. Every new piece of software was examined, analysed and passed on.

Bill Gate's idea of a software market came to the idealistic hacker's world like a bombshell. It was the opinion that every programmer acquired his knowledge from others and only a free exchange could guarantee a further development.

Bill Gates neither wanted to share his knowledge with others nor he wasn't prepared to allow that his software should be freely copied and changed by others. Being upset, finally he wrote a so called "open letter" to the Homebrew computer club. In it he claimed the ones as thieves who were using and copying his software without any payment.

Retro #3 shows Bill Gate's original letter from the year 1976 and gives impressions from hackers' ethics and crackers' philosophy. Furthermore there are scenes of Wau Holland, being figured as a co founder of the Chaos computer club.

Additional highlights in Retro #3 are a special about soccer manager games and the history of the Amstrad/Schneider CPC.
