CNet:
Gateway founder Waitt will step down as CEO
"The founder of the PC distributor Gateway, Ted Waitt, has stepped back from his
position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and withdrawn to member of the board.
He explained, however, that he will continue to influence the company strategy.
Successor, starting January 1st, will be Jeff Weitzen, who is also holding the
position of President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Before joining Gateway
in January 1998, Weitzen was working 18 years for AT&T, last being responsible
for 24 million dollars turnover as Executive Vice President. Weitzens goal is to
make money with software and services all around comuters in addition to selling
PCs; e.g. by seling systems bundled with internet access.
