Oliver Eschbach schreibt: Die Homepage der Amiga User Rheinland ist ab sofort und bis auf weiteres unter aur.eschi-web.de zu finden. Aus bislang ungeklärten Gründen hat sich der Eigentümer der alten Domain-Adresse geändert, wodurch wir keinen Zugriff mehr auf den Unteraccount hatten.

WDR-Orchester: Konzertreihe mit Kompositionen aus Computerspielen
Das Symphonieorchester des WDR gibt derzeit eine Reihe von Konzerten die allesamt unter dem Motto "Musik aus der Welt der Computerspiele" stehen, darunter auch "Symphonic Shades" mit bzw. von Chris Hülsbeck (amiga-news berichtete).
Die erste Veranstaltung "That's Sound, that's Rhythm“, die vergangenen Sonntag stattfand, wird morgen um 10:00 Uhr auf WDR 4 ausgestrahlt und kann auch per Streaming übers Internet verfolgt werden. (cg)

AmigaOS 4.0 Februar 2008 Update für CyberStormPPC und BlizzardPPC

Leuven, Belgien - 23. Februar, 2008
Hyperion Entertainment ist erfreut, die sofortige Verfügbarkeit eines weiteren Service-Updates für Amiga OS 4.0 bekanntgeben zu können, das von registrierten Anwendern heruntergeladen werden kann und einige Probleme auf BlizzardPPC- und CyberstormPPC-Rechnern adressiert.
Das Update enthält:
- Einen neuen Kernel der die Probleme mit der Kombination Mediator 1200/Voodoo-Grafikkarte beseitigt und bei dem andere, kleinere Probleme bereinigt wurden
- Unterstützung für alle Mediator-Modelle, einschließlich des neuen Medaitor 1200 TX
- Überarbeitete Intuition- und Layers-Module bei denen ein selten auftretendes Problem mit korrupter Grafikdarstellung beseitigt wurde
- Ein überarbeiteter queue-handler
- Zwei AREXX-Bibliotheken die in der ursprünglichen Distribution gefehlt haben
- Ein überarbeiteter RT 8029-Treiber der keine Lockups mehr provoziert
- Eine neue Version von DvPlayer SE
Die Installation des Updates wird allen CyberstormPPC- oder BlizzardPPC-Nutzern dringend empfohlen. Wie üblich ist das Update in unserem Download-Bereich zu finden.
Wir möchten diese Gelegenheit nutzen, um unseren Kunden einmal mehr zu versichern, dass die Entwicklung von Amiga OS 4.0 auf diversen Plattformen mit unverminderter Geschwindigkeit weitergeht.

Elbox: Neues PCI-Board Mediator PCI TX
Elbox Computer kündigt für den 27. Februar die Verfügbarkeit eines neuen PCI-Boards an. Mit der Firmware der CPLDs des Mediator PCI 1200 TX soll eine signifikante Geschwindigkeitssteigerung bei Grafikkartenoperationen erzielt werden können, wenn Hardware-2D- und -3D-Beschleunigung auf Ein-Prozessor-Systemen (68k und PPC) genutzt wird.
Die Operationsmodi der neuen Firmware werden von den gleichfalls neuen Systemdateien für AmigaOS 3.x unterstützt, die auf der beiliegenden Mediator-Multimedia-CD (MMCD) enthalten sind. Native PowerPC-Unterstützung soll es als Bestandteil des nächsten Updates von AmigaOS 4.0 ebenfalls geben.
Das Mediator PCI 1200 TX verfügt wie sein Vorgänger über sechs PCI-Steckplätze mit Busmastering, Power Management Interface, ATX- und AT-Stromversorgungsanschlüsse sowie 3,3 Volt Hilfsspannung für alle PCI-Steckplätze.
Geeignet ist das PCI-Board für Amiga 1200-Rechner in den Tower-Gehäusen D-BOX 1200, Mirage 1200, E/BOX 1200 (Power, Winner), EZ-Z4 und Infinitiv.
Auf der MMCD finden sich neue PCI-Treiber-Versionen für die Tonausgabe, TV-Tuner, Ethernet (10 Mbps), Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) und Grafikkarten. Die gegenwärtig unterstützten PCI-Karten sind im Mediator Driver Guide aufgelistet.
Die unverbindliche Preisempfehlung beziffert Elbox mit 195,95 Euro zuzüglich Steuern und Versand. Für Besitzer des Vorgängermodells Mediator 1200 SX werde es ein Upgrade-Programm geben, zu dem Näheres zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt mitgeteilt werden soll. (snx)

Printmagazin: Amiga Future 71 - Vorschau
Pressemitteilung: Die Leseproben und eine ausführliche Inhaltsauflistung der Amiga Future 71 (März/April 2008) sind ab sofort verfügbar.
In dieser Ausgabe haben wir wieder eine Menge Testberichte untergebracht. Die neue Version von YAM wurde genauso getestet wie OWB oder Hollyood 3.
Passend dazu haben wir auch einen Workshop zu Hollywood in dieser Ausgabe.
Aber auch Specials wie zum Beispiel Amiga Retrospective fehlen in dieser Ausage nicht.
Auf der LeserCD haben wir neben einigen anderen Volllversionen dieses mal die Vollversion von Monzoom.
Die deutsche und englische Ausgabe der Amiga Future wird am 5. März erscheinen. Die Hefte können bereits jetzt vorbestellt werden. Die Amiga Future ist im Abo und als Einzelheft direkt bei der Redaktion und diversen Amiga Händlern erhältlich.

AmigaOS 4: FTP-Client PFTP 0.2 (Update)
PFTP (Screenshot) von Peter Gordon bietet u.a. beliebig viele Fenster, Server-zu-Server-Transfers und Drag'n Drop-Unterstützung. Änderungen in Version 0.2:
- Now copes with multi-line responses that don't
start every line with a code and a dash. Thanks
to James Carroll for the report.
- Fixed a DSI that could occasionally happen during
FTP to FTP transfers
- Properly copes with 125 responses for the LIST
command. Thanks to Dwayne Jarvis for the report.
- Now updates CPS information for active transfers
even when they stall.
- When warning you about potentially overwriting
a local file, it gives you the current stats
about the existing files size and date rather
than the ones in the local browser, in case they
have changed in the meantime.
- When sending a local file, it rechecks the local
files length before starting the transfer instead
of relying on the possibly stale value in the
local browser window.
- Properly copes with servers that don't put a
leading zero in the hours column. Thanks to
Dwayne Jarvis for his help nailing this one.
- Reordered the transfer queue columns so that the
basic information is all to the left and the
source/destination directories are at the far
end (file,%,cps,srcdir,destdir instead of
srcdir/file,destdir,%,cps).
- You can now specify the path to the ssh
executable if you don't wish to keep it in the
system searchpath. Simply specify the path where
ssh resides in a "SSHPATH" tooltype. Sorry I
can't remember who suggested this.
- You can now specify a local path to go to when
you connect to a server (see docs).
- Transfers in the queue now have a fancy progress
bar behind the percentage readout.
- Passwords are now encrypted in the .servers file.
Old .server files with plaintext passwords will
be automatically converted when you quit PFTP
or connect to a server.

Brennprogramm: Frying Pan 1.3.1
Tomasz Wiszkowski hat die Version 1.3.1 seines CD- und DVD-Brennprogramms veröffentlicht. Frying Pan liegt für AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS und AROS vor.
Das Update behebt Probleme der Vorgängerversion mit dem On-the-Fly-Brennen. Zudem können auch die mit Frying Pan 1.3.0 erstellten fehlerhaften Discs nachträglich noch korrekt abgeschlossen werden. (snx)

AmigaOS 4: glUAE-Update
Bei glUAE handelt es sich um eine Sammlung von Skripten, die die Nutzung von Chipset-abhängigen oder nicht zu AmigaOS 4 kompatiblen Anwendungen unter dem PPC-Betriebssystem vereinfachen soll.
Mittels glUAE können ausführbare Dateien, Disk-Images oder ZIP-Archive mit einem Doppelklick im Amiga-Emulator UAE gestartet werden.
Changes:
- Extended locking mechanism
- Fixed potential collision between instances of the same application
- Added possibility of excluding the centralized system on a per-application basis
- Merged distribution archives into one
- Revised documentation

Efika: Firmware-Update 1.3 20070122
Für diejenigen Efika-Besitzer, die noch die Version 1.3 20061107 verwenden, wurde unter dem Titellink ein Update bereitgestellt. Die zu aktualisierende Fassung wurde lediglich bei der ersten Charge aufgespielt und initialisierte die AC97-Unterstützung beim Booten nicht korrekt. (snx)

Puzzle-Spiel: Follia NBA
Simone Bevilacqua hat ein Update seines Puzzle-Spiels Follia NBA veröffentlicht. Bei diesem geht es darum, verschiedene NBA-Logos zusammenzusetzen (Screenshot).
Da der Autor das Update unter Verwendung eines Emulators erstellt hat, bittet er um Rückmeldung, falls es auf echten Amigas zu Problemen kommen sollte.

Back to the Roots: Server-Arbeiten
Wie Ralf Steines unter dem Titellink mitteilt, wird in wenigen Stunden der Team-Server durch ein leistungsfähigeres Modell ersetzt werden, wodurch alle gehosteten Projekte (z.B. winuae.net) sowie die Uploads vorübergehend nicht verfügbar sind.
Das Hauptarchiv sowie der anonyme FTP-Zugang sollten hierdurch jedoch nicht beeinträchtigt werden. Die Betreiber bitten die entstehenden Unannehmlichkeiten zu entschuldigen. (snx)

AROS: Status-Update Februar 2008
Auf der Webseite des AROS-Teams gibt es wieder einen Überblick über die jüngsten Neuerungen beim quelloffenen AmigaOS-Klon "AROS Research Operating System" (AROS):
Michal Schulz arbeitet weiter an der Portierung des Betriebssystems auf die SAM440-Hardware, in seinem Blog erläutert er diverse Details der Implementierung.
Nic Andrews überarbeitet den Workbench-Klon Wanderer und nimmt Optimierungen vor bzw. beseitigt bekannte Fehler. U.A. werden die Routinen zur Darstellung von Verzeichnisfenstern jetzt gepuffert, um unnötiges Flimmern zu vermeiden. Auch Andrews nutzt seinen Blog um seine Ziele bei der Wanderer-Überarbeitung zu erläutern.
Michael Grunditz hat die ersten Beta-Versionen von SimpleMail 0.32 veröffentlicht, während Robert Norris Fortschritte mit seinem Webkit-basierten Web-Browser Traveller macht - ein erster Screenshot wurde jetzt auf Norris' Blog veröffentlicht.
João "Hardwired" Ralha arbeitet an Handbüchern für AROS: Bei den Arbeiten am AROS User Manual (zu 50% fertig), dem AROS Shell Manual (70%) und dem AROS Install Manual (25%) benötigt der Autor Unterstützung von weiteren Freiwilligen.
Außerdem hat Alain Greppin TeXlive auf AROS portiert und Tomek 'Error' Wiszkowski stellt eine AROS-Version seines CD-/DVD-Brennprograms Frying Pan zur Verfügung. Das AROS-Dateisystem FFS wurde überarbeitet und kann sich jetzt selbst validieren.

AmigaOS 4: DvPlayer 0.65
Für AmigaOS 4 wurde ein Update des Video- und DVD-Abspielers DvPlayer veröffentlicht. Benötigt wird hierfür die aktuelle Version 51.52 der avcodec.library.
Registrierte Benutzer sollten die neue Version bereits per E-Mail erhalten haben. Sollte dies bei einzelnen Anwendern nicht geschehen sein, möchten diese sich bitte an den Autor wenden.
Changes:
- Added support for ASF and WMV files with prebuffering, intelligent frame-skipping, index handling and a/v synchronisation
- Fixes and improvements to rendering routines and added support for some
new YUV colour formats
- Added USEBAND tooltype/option allowing the performance to be fine-tuned on different systems
- Added AUTOEXIT tooltype/option
- Added SUBTITLECHARSET tooltype/option allowing to specify any character
set for subtitles (by default the system setting is used)
- Added suport for html-style tags in subtitles: currently italic tag is
used, other tags are ignored
- Fixed bugs in subtitle support
- Fixes and improvements in audio/video synchronisation
- Added support for volume adjustment via provided keys on Multimedia
keyboards
- Many other bugfixes and improvements (GUI, menu, I/O plugin handling,
etc.)

strangé ist ein MUI-basierter AmigaGuide-/HTML-Anzeiger, der auf HTMLView.mcc basiert. Änderungen in Version 0.20:
- Hemmm removed the fake iconify on MorphOS; it had
some strange side effects that made it not usable
in a clean way
- Changed lineread.c to dynamically allocate buffers.
There were problems with genesis and old fixed buffer
scheme.
- Fixed popfile.c not freying an allocated buffer
- Fixed html.c double allocating URLs

AmigaOS 4: Origyn Web Browser 1.12
Jörg Strohmayer hat ein Update des Origyn Web Browser veröffentlicht. Änderungen in dieser Version:
- v1.12: Fixed the bug which caused crashes with missing fonts in version 1.10 and 1.11
- v1.11: Fixed a bug in the OS4 font code and changed some parameters to improve the display
- v1.11: Changed the network code to only wait, delaying the (re)rendering, if data is transferred.
Alternativ zum 7z-Archiv auf der Webseite des Autors steht im Aminet auch eine LhA-Version der OWB-Distribution zur Verfügung.
