BoingTube: YouTube on the Amiga
BoingTube makes YouTube content available on classic Amiga systems, with an approach very similar to AmiTube: The project is aimed at AmigaOS 3.2 users and combines a native Amiga application with a server-based backend that runs on the local home network. The server handles all the complex tasks such as searching, metadata processing, and video transcoding, while it is controlled from AmigaOS either via an RxMUI-based user interface or via a fully IBrowse-compatible HTML front end.

BoingTube supports global YouTube search, channel browsing, and video and playlist playback. Extensive metadata such as views, subscribers, thumbnails, and other information is also displayed. The server part is distributed as a Docker container and requires a 64-bit processor with 2 GB of RAM. The following setup is required on the Amiga side:
  • AmigaOS 3.2
  • 68040 + AGA or RTG (fast 68060/Vampire/PiStorm + RTG highly recommended)
  • MUI 3.8
  • RxMUI
  • TCP/IP stack (Roadshow, Miami, Genesis, etc.)
  • fast ethernet connection
  • nettools (curl, nc)
  • mpega.library
  • RiVA MPEG Video Player (included)
  • 16/24bit RTG Workbench Screen for Window playback
  • IBrowse 3.0 for HTML Frontend

Apollo team: Apollo-Core GOLD 2.18 in development
At the end of October, the Apollo team announced that it would be ending support for Vampire V2. However, a new Core 2.18 is now in development. Read the press release:

Dear Users,

Despite our previous announcement regarding the end of support, we have excellent news. By utilizing a legacy compilation environment, we managed to bypass technical limitations and produce GOLD 2.18, the successor to GOLD 2.17.

New Features in GOLD 2.18:
  • 64-Bit FPU: Improved precision and performance for floating-point calculations.
  • 32 Floating Point Registers: It is now possible to use 32 FP registers, matching the capabilities of the Vampire V4.
  • Hardware FINT: The Floor Integer instruction is now implemented in hardware for faster execution.
  • MOVI Instruction: A new addition to the instruction set.
Why MOVI? (Small is Best)
While "big" is often better for cars, smaller is best for program executables. The 68k family is known for its code density, and the 68080 takes this further with instructions like MOVI, ADDIW, and CMPIW.

Making programs smaller allows them to load faster and fit better in CPU caches, which directly translates to faster execution. With this update, the 68080 continues to offer the most compact and efficient code in the 68k world.

GOLD 2.18 core update will first be shared with our test team to make sure we experience no regression and then made available publicly to all. (dr)

WLAN driver: DaynaPORT 1.4
Robert Smith's driver uses the WLAN emulation available in the SD-based SCSI 'drives' ZuluSCSI and BlueSCSI to connect any Amiga with a SCSI host to the network. Changes in version 1.4:
  • Rewritten and tidied up the main part of the driver
  • Fixed intermittent crash when driver is shutdown (present in other drivers!)
  • Will try to connect to an "AmigaNET" device rather than DaynaPort if found (SCSI Firmware upgrade required - included)
  • Added new batch read/write packets for much greater throughput!
  • Added a debug window to help diagnose when it doesn't work.
