MorphOS: Arcade-Emulator MAME 0.113 Fabien Coeurjoly has published an update of the Multi Arcade Machine Emulator which emulates several arcade-machines. Because the MAME-Core has changed a great deal since the last MorphOS-version the MorphOS-port was done nearly completely new and has now an improved graphical user-interface and a lower sound latency. Besides this the video routines were optimated and the "Aspect ratio" is kept better. Direct download: mame-0.113.lha (18,3 MB) (cg) (Translation: dr) [News message: 30. Coldfire turbocard: Status-update for Coldfusion In a thread at amiga.org Oliver "Oli_hd" Hannaford-Day gave a statement to the status of his Coldfusion project. The goal is to develop a Coldfire based turbocard for Amiga computers. The developer told that he keep on working at the project but he does not believe in finishing it. There would be too many problems (connecting the turbocard via the Amiga-bus) therefore the connection with the PCI-bus currently would be the only practicable solution - but which has different problems. Currently Hannaford-Day spends his time for other, smaller projects. He will not stop his Coldfire-project because he has invested too many resources but he also recommends all interested users to "look for different solutions". Graphician needed for Amiga game project David Brunet writes: Gunnar von Boehn is looking for one or more GFX artists to create new Amiga 2D games. The games will be in the spirit of great Amiga titles and will be based on the Arcade Construction Kit (ACK) project which started last year. As the game is based on the ACK engine, it will run on all faster Amiga platforms. This includes AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AROS and fast AmigaOS 3.x systems like UAE/WinUAE and PowerPC or Coldfire equipped classic Amigas. In addition to this, the game would be able to run on other platforms such as Linux, Windows and Mac OS. There are 2 game genres possible: Genre 1: Classical shoot'em up like "Menace" or "Hybris". Typical ideas are space shooter, plane, submarine or Rambo style. Genre 2: Classical beat'em up in the spirit of "IK+", "Karateka", "Streetfighter", "Samurai Showdown" or "Sword of Sodan". Basicly everything is possible ranging form Karate, Samurai, Knights, Monsters, Super Heroes, to catfighting Bikini Babes. The exact look and feel is fully up to taste and abilities of the GFX artist. A nice option is to start with simple one2one Karate type games. For such a IK+ type game we would only need one background image and one set of sprites. It could later be enhanced with extra story line, extra backgrounds and extra characters. The GFX artist needs to be able to create all the images for his game. This includes the title screen, the backgrounds and the sprites. The game engine supports all types of resolutions and color models. The game engine imposes nearly no limits on us (i.e. size and number of sprites is nearly unlimited). The targeted resolution is 640x480 in True Color. But other resolutions are possible if wanted. With a fast GFX artist, it could be possible to create such a game in less than a month. There is a nice bonus as well. Genesi offered to sponsor this project by donating a free Efika to every GFX artist who helps to create a game for Amiga/MorphOS. USB stack: Poseidon 3.6 Press release: The just completed new version V3.6 of Poseidon is now available. It includes several enhancements, fixes and supports more mass storage devices, ethernet adapters and the infamous USB Rocket Launcher. Download it here or use Trident's built-in online update facility. News in V3.6
I really spent a lot of time and effort on this release, polishing a lot of the internals at various places. Mass storage should now work better than ever. The new Asix Ethernet class makes it possible to benefit of 100MBit adapters on USB 2.0 -- as long as the USB board doesn't drain the CPU too much (which unfortunately, is the case with the Spider). But there are things to come. It should be performing very well on the classic Amigas now. I be will spending the next weeks in making the experience for MorphOS at least equally nice.
