Home Assistant client for AmigaOS: ami2ha
ami2ha is a native AmigaOS client for the Home Assistant home automation system, with the first version (0.1) having been released recently. The program connects to the server via the WebSocket API and displays sensor readings, statuses, and switches in a configurable MUI window; changes are updated in real time.

The entities that appear on the Amiga are specified in Home Assistant using a label. When establishing a connection, the Amiga queries which entities have this label. This means the selection can be changed without touching the Amiga. Grouping, order, labeling, and display style are configured in a settings window and saved in a text file.

Further features:
  • ARexx port (AMI2HA) with commands such as GET, ATTR, ON, OFF, TOGGLE, and CALL
  • automatic reconnection after a disconnection
  • Launch from the Workbench; settings in the icon tooltypes
  • Command-line modes (LIST, GET, WATCH ...) that do not require MUI
Memory requirements depend on the size of the dashboard, not on the size of the Home Assistant installation: Based on an installation with 2,079 entities, displaying twelve entities takes up about 1.3 KB instead of 960 KB.

Requirements: AmigaOS 3.0 or later, a TCP/IP stack with bsdsocket.library (Roadshow, AmiTCP, Miami, or the UAE emulator), and MUI 3.8 or later for the user interface. The archive includes a 68000 build and a 68020 build, an installer script, and an AmigaGuide manual. It was developed and tested on AmigaOS 3.2 on an Amiga 4000T and on FS-UAE.

HTTPS support (AmiSSL) is not yet included. Therefore, the server must currently be accessible via plain HTTP, which is usually the case on a home network.

Plans include visual enhancements and the integration of additional smart home components such as roller shades, irrigation systems, solar panels, etc.

ami2ha was created in conjunction with Claude (Anthropic): The concept, strategic decisions, and all testing on actual hardware were handled by developer Jan Stermann, while the code was written primarily through dialogue with the model. The entire process is documented in the Git history.

The program is licensed under the MIT License. You can download ami2ha and the source code from GitHub. (nba)
