Script: Convert2CDXL
Thorsten Schölzel wrote: The CD³²-alliance is pleased to offer the very first version of Convert2CDXL on our website.

Because of missing resources we have decided to publish this ealy version.

For the first time with Convert2CDXL it isnow possible to create a CDXL file from single pictures in PPM format and a WAV audio file. Convert2CDXL automatically converts with the help of external programs the pictures to the PPM format consisting of HAM6 pictures and the WAV file into a 8SVX audio file. These ones then are converted to the CDXL format.

There is a example script for starting a CDXL film in the archive. You only have to change the speed figure.

By publishing it we hope to find a programmer who develops Convert2CDXL to the final version. Additionally we hope that the Amiga animation format will get a fresh impetus. (snx) (Translation: dr)

MorphOS: otrMUI 1.1
Thomas Igracki has published a new version of otrMUI. It is a graphical user-interface for the decoder of onlinetvrecorder.com which is a free service which records tv films.

Changes:
  • Fix: Doesn't unghost the remove, up, down and play buttons after one file was decoded (because I activate the next entry in the listview)
  • New: The listview now has some more columns: "Status", "Name", "Date", "Starttime", "Channel", "Duration", "Format", "File", "Filesize" both video (.otrkey) and music (.omrkey) files are supported
  • Fix: If you drop files from Ambient into otrMUI, the list had refresh problems, because I didn't set MUIA_List_Quiet to FALSE after inserting files...
  • New: Added some up/down buttons to sort the order of the files, because mouse-drag-sort doesn't work here!?
  • Change: Removed the "+" button, it's useless, because the files get automatically inserted after you selected them in the popup req
  • New: The popup req only show "*.otrkey" and "*.omrkey" files
  • New: Only files which match "*.o[m/t]rkey" are inserted into the list
  • In the popup-req a requester appears if the file isn't supported; when you drop a file via Ambient, the warning message is displayed in the status list
  • New: Added a "Music Archive" and "Video Archive" tab, not yet functional
  • Fix: The "-", "up", "dn" button are now also disabled if no entry is selected
  • New: The input string gadget is now set to the BasePath if no entry is selected

Additionally NatAmi will also have improved chipset features, e.g. faster blitter, higher resolutions and basic 3D-functions. This new modus is called "SuperAGA" by the developer. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Software news until 10.03.2008
Christian Rosentreter has released updates of some of his AmigaOS/MorphOS tools, aswell as a port of the SDL based board game Atakks. There's also an update of the AmigaGuide/HTML viewer strangé aswell as a converter for HivelyTracker and AHX music modules.

SerialEcho 50.5

SerialEcho works like the AmigaDOS built-in command 'Echo', but its output is redirected to the serial port instead (which can be catched with another computer connected to the serial port or a tool like Sashimi). New in version 50.5:
  • fixed enforcer hit when SerialEcho was used w/o arguments
  • OS4 port
  • AROS port thx to Matthias Rustler (binary archive only available on aros-archives atm.)

Atakks 1.0

Atakks is an Othello-like clone for one or two players (Screenshot). The game will start in two player mode, but it's possible to enable the AI for the blue player by pressing 'i' during the game. Press 'q' to quit. If manually launched from commandline a french help is available with '-h' parameter.

Changes compared to orig. version:
  • removed extreme CPU usage for no reason
  • better 'Quit' handling during play
  • nifty iconx start script to catch the standard output in an acceptable way when game was started from Ambient
  • MorphOS icon
  • other cosmetics

MPDControl 0.3 (Release Candidate)

MPDControl is a very basic commandline based client for the Music Player Daemon (short: MPD). Music Player Daemon allows remote access for playing music (MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, Mod and Wave files) and managing playlists. MPD is designed for integrating a computer into a stereo system that provides control for music playback over a local network.

With MPDControl it is now possible to control a MPD server from MorphOS. E.g. have MPD running on an EFIKA with Linux and manage everything comfortably from a Pegasos with MorphOS. MPDControl can be used as a MMKeyboard or Toolmanager hotkey or be launched via some simple project icons and AmigaDOS scripts from a dedicated Ambient panel. The possibilities are numerous.

Download: mpdcontrol-0.3-morphos.lha (11 KB)

strangé 0.23

BoulderDäsh 5.25 - Shockwave
Guido Mersmann writes: Rockford is back! There was BoulderDäsh RTX and now there is: BoulderDäsh Shockwave.

Yeah and the name says what you get! If you thought its not possible to make it even better, then this will prove you wrong!

The new BoulderDäsh provides a completely new gaming experience. For the first time it is not only possible to see and hear massive explosions and rocks smashing. Now its possible to feel them!

All you need to get this experience is a Rumble, DualShock, ForceFeedBack controller connected via Poseidon-USB. BoulderDäsh seems to be the first Amiga compatible game using this functionality.

Trust me in this! It makes the game and the game experience more intense. Its now just a new effect, its like playing a new game.

BoulderDäsh Shockwave! Don't play with Rockford! Be Rockford! (snx)

Network File System-Implementation aNFS (formerly known as ch_nfs) now under GPL
Since a few days there is a new open-source project on SourceForge.net: It is the source of the NFS file system (ch_nfs) written by Carsten Heyl which formerly belonged to AmiTCP.

A few years ago he released the sources as GPL and handed it over to Jens Langner. With this new project he is looking for interested developers who help to speed up the development of a NFS-file system for the Amiga sector.

With the new open-source project now called aNFS the programmer team try to get the source files of the old NFS-file system work under the new operating systems like AmigaOS 4, MorphOS or AROS.

Because the project is quite new developers are very welcome. At the moment some parts of the source files do not exist and have to be written again.

Interested developers may contact Jens Langner and can get further information about the status of development. (snx) (Translation: dr)

YouTube: Video "Space Wars" by Tobias Richter (1992)
YouTube user Kenzoid27 has digitized the animation "Space Wars" from the year 1992 from a VHS cassette, slightly reworked it and made it open to the general public under the title link, in order to bring back memories and to highlight what was already possible on the Amiga at that time.

The video by Tobias J. Richter (Story, Modeling, Animation), Carsten Fuchs (Program) Bjørn A. Lynne (Music) and Frank Brehme (Editor) was generated on two Amiga 2000's and three Amiga 3000's using the programs Reflections 2.0, Videoscape 2.0, Deluxe Paint IV, Scala as well as Music X and was recorded directly. AmigaOS 4: Origyn Web Browser 1.13
Jörg Strohmayer has published an update of the Origyn Web Browser. Further components are now used as so called shared objects.

Changes:
  • Fixed OWB bug 178 (fonts related endless loops) in the AmigaOS4 fonts implementation
  • If loading a page failed the progress bar is set to 0 now
  • Added tooltype DISABLEGIFANIMS, if it's set the anims are still played once since usually the last image is better than the first
  • Added tooltype DISABLEJAVASCRIPT
  • Using shared libcurl, libssl, libxml2, libxslt and libz now, you have to download sobjs.lha, extract it and and copy them to SOBJS:. Not required if you use AmiUpdate to update OWB, the new shared objects are installed automatically
  • The shared libcurl uses DEVS:curl-ca-bundle.crt instead of S:curl-ca-bundle.crt (since it's not a script using S: was wrong)
  • Mounting RANDOM: is not required any more

AmigaOS 4: FTP-Client PFTP 0.2 (update)
PFTP (screen shot) by Peter Gordon offers unlimited windows, server-to-server transfers and drag'n drop support. Changes in version 0.2:
  • Now copes with multi-line responses that don't start every line with a code and a dash. Thanks to James Carroll for the report.
  • Fixed a DSI that could occasionally happen during FTP to FTP transfers
  • Properly copes with 125 responses for the LIST command. Thanks to Dwayne Jarvis for the report.
  • Now updates CPS information for active transfers even when they stall.
  • When warning you about potentially overwriting a local file, it gives you the current stats about the existing files size and date rather than the ones in the local browser, in case they have changed in the meantime.
  • When sending a local file, it rechecks the local files length before starting the transfer instead of relying on the possibly stale value in the local browser window.
  • Properly copes with servers that don't put a leading zero in the hours column. Thanks to Dwayne Jarvis for his help nailing this one.
  • Reordered the transfer queue columns so that the basic information is all to the left and the source/destination directories are at the far end (file,%,cps, srcdir, destdir instead of srcdir/file,destdir,%,cps).
  • You can now specify the path to the ssh executable if you don't wish to keep it in the system searchpath. Simply specify the path where ssh resides in a "SSHPATH" tooltype. Sorry I can't remember who suggested this.
  • You can now specify a local path to go to when you connect to a server (see docs).
  • Transfers in the queue now have a fancy progress bar behind the percentage readout.
  • Passwords are now encrypted in the .servers file. Old .server files with plaintext passwords will be automatically converted when you quit PFTP or connect to a server.

Update: (21.02.2008, 16:00, cg)

Meanwhile an improved version is available where one minor bug (requesting drive "Blah:") has been removed. (cg) (Translation: ub)

Back to the Roots: Server work
Ralf Steines writes: In a few hours we will take down our team machine to replace it with a ten times faster and bigger machine. If all goes right this will last a few hours only.

The team machine runs all hosted projects (such as winuae.net) and the upload FTP, so these are unreachable for the time the move lasts. The main archive and the anonymous FTP should not be affected by this.

The team server needs a new os and new hardware. Once the machine is configured completely (mostly an invisible task) we'll look forward to new updates.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

AROS: Status update February 2008
On the website of the AROS-Team there is an overview about the latest news concerning the AmigaOS-clone "AROS Research Operating System" (AROS):

Michal Schulz is working hard on porting AROS to Acube Systems SAM440 board, and he got some interesting results.

Nic Andrews is working on Wanderer, in order to improve it and fix some annoying bugs. He is now "slowly hacking away at reworking the rendering code for wanderer iconlist class. The intermediate goal is to allow icon windows to buffer the icon/background rendering so, for instance, using the tiled rendering mode for iconlist backgrounds wont cause noticable icon flickering as it currently does".

Michael Grunditz has officially released the first SimpleMail 0.32 betas for the AROS Research Operating System. SimpleMail has most of the features currently needed in a modern email client, and it's still growing. The AROS port can be downloaded from the Archives.

João "Hardwired" Ralha has recently written some good manuals for AROS. However, they are not finished, and he is currently looking for help. Available documents are the AROS User Manual (50% complete), the AROS Shell Manual (70%) and the AROS Istall Manual (25%).

Additionally Alain Greppin has ported TeXlive to AROS and Tomek 'Error' Wiszkowski has published a AROS-version of his CD-/DVD-burning program Frying Pan. The AROS-file system FFS was improved and got proper validation. (cg) (Translation: dr)
