AmigaOS 4: Word processing Cinnamon Writer 0.80
Claus Desler's Cinnamon Writer is a word processing software which can import RTF and DocX files. Version 0.80 offers spell checking which supports several languages in a document.
The current version of Cinnamon Writer offers specific Amiga keyboard shortcuts and a menu which can be activated with the right mouse button. It also is not longer SDL-based but exclusively uses Amiga libraries.

A-EON: Another X1000 production run, Xorro plug-in board, X1000 boot theme

Musical Tribute
To mark the release of the AmigaONE X1000 "First Contact" system we commissioned free-lance music composer Rachel Dickinson (aka Rayne Leafe) to create two original soundtracks as a tribute to the ground-breaking Amiga 1000 computer.
We asked her to compose a new start-up boot sound for the AmigaONE X1000 which built on the Amigas' original diagnostic audio test. We also asked her to create a longer piece which captures the spirit of the AmigaONE X1000. The result is A-EON Starlight an atmospheric and evocative music score which evolved from her new boot theme.
According to venerable AmigaOS developer Olaf Barthel, "the Amiga 1000 audio diagnostic test (aka boot sound) is based upon the Siegfried horn motif, as used in Richard Wagner's Ring cycle. The code for the Amiga 1000 boot ROM does not contain just the Wagner snippet, but also something else: the five tone "theme of the mothership" by John Williams as used in "Close encounters of the third kind". Barthel added "The author of the audio diagnostic code appears to be Siegfried W. Bleher. The theme played by the Amiga 1000 appears to be an edited version, which plays faster than Wagner's original, and is not exactly in tune with it either. The notes played are as follows: c, g (long note), e (1/128th note), c, d, e, f, e, d, d. The playback frequencies and speed are hard-coded for an NTSC machine, which might explain why it sounds like it does. The individual sound generation code uses a sine wave and emulates an ADSR envelope with short attack time and a slightly longer release time. From what I can tell, the diagnostic code and the music as we know it today finally came together on 13 May 1985. Also (I tested the code when I discovered it), John William's five tone theme did not sound quite as good as in the film. In the film score, the cue that contains the five tone theme is called "wild signals". It is perhaps fitting that the Amiga's 1985 "Close Encounter" developed into the AmigaONE X1000's "First Contact".
Rachel commented, "I spent my childhood using an Amiga computer and it's a special privilege for me to be able to contribute to its continuing success. When I was asked to write the boot sound for the new AmigaONE X1000 I wanted to pay homage to both the simple boot theme of the original Amiga and the enhanced start-up sound created for AmigaOS 4 by Japanese electro-pop artist, composer and Amiga user Susumu Hirasawa. I've tried to remain true to the tone row of the original boot sound while adding a modern interpretation. The A-EON Starlight theme is an expansion and exploration of the new boot theme. I hope you enjoy my musical Amiga tribute. "

The Mark of Xorro!
As part of our ongoing commitment to the AmigaONE X1000, we commissioned Varisys to design a special Xorro plug-in board to take advantage of the A1-1000's onboard Xena "co-processor". The Xorro board is intended for the consummate Amiga hacker and is a practical XMOS veroboard which allows access to the Xena slot IOs and power rails. It has the added advantage of being able to be cut in half via an added dotted line, allowing it to be used in small form factor cases. To demonstrate it's use on the AmigaONE X1000, Varisys created a simple circuit with a buffer and some LEDs. A video is attached of the Xorro board performing an XMOS "walking 1" test on the Xena pins. The Xorro plug-in board will be stocked by AmigaKit and information will be posted on their website in the near future.

AmigaOS 4: Digital sketches with Sketchblock 1.3
Andy Broad's "Sketchblock" is a simple paint programm, which you can use as digital sketch pad (screenshot). Layers and transparency are supported. A graphic tablet can be used as input device. The project is in it's very early stages.
New features include support for bitmap brushes, more ARexx commands, brush selection via the GUI, and support for ToolBox windows.
Additionally the author has published a short Youtube video which shows "Bitmap Brushes".

USB-Floppy-Disk-Controller: KryoFlux writes ADF-Images
The USB-Floppy-Controller Kryoflux can read different disk formats with the help of disk drives. The control software is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
For some time it has been possible to write IPF on disks. With the latest software update now Kryoflux also can write back ADF-images.

Stability issues: a cooler and a software updates for ACA 1231 processor boards
After several customers of Individual Computer's ACA 1231 accelerator boards reported stability issues, the manufacturer now supplies a cooling solution for free. All customers who already received an ACA 1231 will also receive the package detailed below without having to specifically request it.
Mario 'mfilos' Filos has supplied us with pictures of the package customers have received. It contains the cooler, a short manual and a 'Lisa' custom chip - which is used to fix a heat transfer pad during transport and can be used for other means once the cooler has been mounted on the ACA 1231:
Additionally, an update of the tool 'ACATune' is available from the web page of the official distributor Vesalia. ACATune is used under Workbench 3.0 (and only there) to add the FastRAM on the ACA 1231 to the system. The initial version had a bug which would try to add non-existant memory aswell, which would result in a system crash as soon as these memory areas were accessed.
Additionally, there's a new revision of the ACA 1231 Firmware that delays a cold start somewhat to give older harddisks enough time to spin up properly. The ACA firmware can not be updated by the user himself: customers whose harddisks are not recognised during a cold start are asked to contact Vesalia and request a firmware upgrade. AmigaOne X1000: Video of prototype of a Xorro expansion board
"Xorro" is called the slot on the motherbaord of the AmigaOne X1000. Expansion boards can be connected which have a direct access to the XMOS-chip ("Xena"). A-Eon itself is not going to develop such expansions.
A-EON's hardware compagnon Varisys now has published a video, which apparently shows a prototype of a Xorro expansion board.

AROS: Icaros 1.4 and AspireOS 1.7, inclusive Odyssey Web Browser 1.16
Recently the bounty for improving Zune was started and apparantly has a first benefit: The latest versions of the AROS-distributions Icaros and AspireOS include a port of the current version of Fabien "Fab" Coeurjoly's web browser Odyssey (Youtube videos: Icaros 1.4, AspireOS 1.7).
This version is supposed to be an "exclusive bundle". It is the "first official version".

Ogg Vorbis and Ogg Theora Plugins for Hollywood
Press release: Two new plugins now are available for Hollywood 5.0: By adding the OggVorbis and the OggTheora plugin, Hollywood now can play the corresponding music and video files. The Vorbis and Theora technologies are useful because most likely they are not are subject to software patent protection and therefore most likely may be used without licence fees in commercial software.
Thanks to the cross-platform plugin-system of Hollywood 5.0, the plugins are available for AmigaOS 3 (Classic), AmigaOS 3 (FPU), AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, WarpOS, AROS (Intel), Linux (PowerPC), Linux (Intel), Mac OS (PowerPC), Mac OS (Intel) and Windows.

Video-Broadcast: Amitopia TV broadcasts around the clock
Amitopia TV is an English-language video magazine about the Amiga. The videostream can be accessed under http://77.88.121.243:30000 and since yesterday it is broadcasted around the clock.
At least a PowerPC-processor with 400MHz is required for playing the steam on an Amiga system with e.g. MPlayer.

Metacompiler: PortablE r6-05-03-2012 (Beta)
The programming language Amiga E is extended by Christopher Handley's metacompiler PortablE. It translates it into other languages.
Prepared modules for graphic, sound output and music as well as user-interface are included. Additionally there is a PortablE-forum. Mainly PortablE supports AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS and, with some limitations, AmigaOS 3.x and Windows. The changes of the latest version are listed in the history.

Sirena AHIW published by Morgue Soft is another programm for simple picture editing. It was written in Hollywood and is available for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and Windows XP.

glUAE written by Simone Bevilacqua is a collection of scripts which is supposed to make it easier to use 68k applications which are not compatible to AmigaOS4 under the PPC operating system.
With glUAE executable files, disk-images or ZIP-archives can be started with a double-click in the Amiga emulator UAE.

AmigaOS 4/MorphOS: Word Me Up XXL 1.53
The commercial game "Word Me Up XXL" published by Boing Attitude is an arcade and puzzle game. Version 1.53 is available for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS. The demo version was updated as well.
Additional to a high increase of the performance speed, now touchscreens are supported and new levels and figures were added:
- The game (itself) is 30% faster.
- The game is playable with fingers if you have a touch screen.
- New launch menu that makes it easy to reach different parts of Word Me Up XXL (readme, game, website, ...). All of these parts are translated in the 11 languages of the game.

AROS: Zune Enhancement Bounty started
Krzysztof "Deadwood" Śmiechowicz has accepted a bounty which is supposed to improve the open source MUI-clone Zune. Among others the aim is to implement in Zune those MUI 4 functions and features that are needed to compile Fab1's Odyssey Web Browser, which currently only runs on MorphOS.
If he will succeed he will currently get 296 USD.

Javascript: TAWS - The Amiga Workbench Simulation 0.19
TAWS ("The Amiga Workbench Simulation") is a pure JavaScript simulation of the Amiga-Workbench 1.x - 3.x for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Apple-WebKit-Browser.
Any feedback is very welcome. The changes of version 0.19 are listed within TAWS in the folder System/TAWS.

Similar to his collection for MorphOS, Yannick 'Papiosaur' Buchy now offers a software bundle for AmigaOS 3.1. The pre-configured Workbench environment is meant for 68020/030-based Amigas without graphic boards.
Just copy the self-extracting archive to the main partition of a new installed 3.1-installation. At least 50 MB of free memory are required.

Datatypes: WarpPNG 45.16, WarpJPEG V45.9
Oliver Roberts has updated his Warp-datatypes for PNG and JPEG graphics. They have been compiled with new libraries (libpng 1.5.9 and zlib 1.2.6 and IJG jpeglib v8d) as well as for the MorphOS and WarpOS-versions with VBCC 0.9b. The AmigaOS-4-version uses the new Exec and DOS functions of this operating system.

AmigaKit: MP3-Hardware "MAS-Player" with integrated audio mixer
The British trader AmigaKit has published again the hardware-MP3-decoder MAS-Player which plays MP3-files on any Amiga with 68020-processor and 2 MB RAM.
In this new edition the sound output of the MP3-player is mixed with the audio signal of the Amiga so both signals are available at the output of the MAS-player.

Elbox: FastATA Mk IV with SATA-controller and CompactFlash-Slot
The fourth issue of Elbox' harddrive controller FastATA is available in three different versions - for Zorro III, Amiga 1200 or for the Elbox ZIV-device - and now has PATA- ("IDE") ports as well as a SATA port and a CompactFlash slot.
Additionally new software (ATA3.driver 11.0, FastATA4000 ver. 4.0) enclosed with the new controllers is optimized for best compatibility with Compact Flash cards and SATA drives.
CF cards controlled by a FastATA controller are seen in the Amiga system as a fixed (non-removable) device, which facilitates installation of bootable partitions on them.

MorphOS: Blender 2.62
Guillaume 'Yomgui' Roguez has published an update of his MorphOS-port of the 3D-graphic programm Blender which is available on his website as well as via Grunch. The PowerSDL.library is no longer required:
- Sync on 2.62 release tag
- Fixed locale issue for LC_NUMERIC (Forced to "C" now).
- Fixed crash caused by bad BLI_thread_queue_xxx() implementation in thread_mos.c (crash in material Preview).
- MEM_mapallocN() uses AllocVecAligned() for 16bytes alligned memory allocations (SIMD compat).
- Raytrace: Altivec support added.
- Added carve lib build (replace old boolean code)
- Added offical fix (#30158): Remesh crash
- Removed PowerSDL usage (was needed for sound, but nobody use it...)

MorphOS: OpenOfficeViewer 0.0.8
Carsten Siegner's OpenOfficeViewer shows texts and graphics of OpenDocument-files, which among others are used by OpenOffice. Changes in version 0.0.8:
- Documents in OpenDocument presentation standard are recognized and viewed
- Multimedia objects (Sound/Movie) in the documents are recognized but still not viewed
- Hyperlinks are recognized and transformed in virtual buttons. The mouse pointer changes if you are over a link. The link is handed over to OpenURL
- A special display mode for presentations is available

AmigaOS 4: iODBC-Update
Andrea Palmatè's iODBC-port for AmigaOS 4 was updated. SQLite ODBC was updated to version 0.94 and a new NNTP-driver is available as well.
iODBC means "Independent Open DataBase Connectivity". It is a platform independent implementation of the standardized database interface ODBC and its X/Open-specification.

A-EON Technology supports RadeonHD driver development
Press release: Wellington, 23rd February 2012. Following the recent release of the RadeonHD graphics driver for AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5, which made it's official debut on the AmigaONE X1000 "First Contact" system, we are pleased to reveal that we have now concluded a further agreement with Hans de Ruiter for the continued development of his RadeonHD drivers for the AmigaOS.
In a statement de Ruiter commented, "I am currently working to get the driver fully ready for 3D, and to release quality. Thanks to the support of Trevor Dickinson (A-EON Technology), I will be able to devote more time to RadeonHD driver development over the next few months, and achieve this goal much sooner than would otherwise have been the case.
The features being worked on include: Vertical blanking interrupt support for RadeonHD cards (no more wasting CPU cycles when double-buffering); Video RAM (VRAM) management for the RadeonHD_RM.resource (intelligent VRAM buffer paging)."
De Ruiter added: "The last feature is essential for stable 3D operation. I look forward to delivering RadeonHD.chip version 1.x and, of course, to be able to run modern 3D applications using RadeonHD cards and AmigaOS."
Dickinson said in reply: "I am really pleased to help fund Hans' RadeonHD driver work. This is excellent news for all AmigaONE X1000 owners, including myself ;-) and hopefully should benefit all AmigaOS 4 users in the future."

Hollywood: Malibu 1.3
Press release: The Malibu plugin, which enables Hollywood to run Scala scripts on your Workbench, is now available in version 1.3. This version is enhanced for Hollywood 5.0 and brings some improvements and bug fixes over the old version.
It is available as a free download for all registered Malibu users from the Airsoft Softwair homepage. Please visit the Malibu product page at the title link for more information and a download link for the update.
The big news in this version is that Malibu is now also available for AROS (i386) and Microsoft Windows. Users who have bought Malibu can request the AROS and Windows version via e-mail for free.

AmigaOS 4: Blu Manager 0.7
Blu Manager is a database programm for AmigaOS 4 written by Pål Ringkilen for managing Blu-ray-films. wget is required to be installed in directory C. Changes:
- Have fixed the system freeze when resizing the main window
- Added a new logo in the about window. Thanks to Svenn Ove for the nice picture
- Added check for WGet. If not found then it will quit
- Have centered the text in the about window
- Have added fancy composition fading on about and search window
- The saved list is now sorted in alphabetical order

Programming language: Preliminary version of Hollywood 5 SDK
Users can publish plugins for the recently released Hollywood 5. The preliminary Hollywood SDK is required to build plugins. A full SDK with documentation of the different plugin types will be released soon.

Linux: whdrunner starts WHDLoad-games under fs-uae
With whdrunner written by Marcel "frostwork" Unbehaun you can start zip-compressed WHDLoad-games: The programm extracts the archive, recognizes the game with the help of an included database, creates an user-startup on-the-fly and starts the setup in the emulator fs-uae.

RememberOpenDrawers 1.0
RememberOpenDrawers for AmigaOS 3.5+ (tested under AmigaOS 4.1 as well) is a collection of ARexx-scripts with which it is possible to find some Workbench-drawers open after having rebooted the computer.

AMOS-Reimplementation: jAMOS 0.13
jAMOS is a Java version of AMOS (amiga-news.de reported about it) which offers additional features.
Changes:
- A text output console is now spawned on creation (for HelloWorld.jamos, etc.)
- Default example changed to jAMOSOut (original still available under AMAL examples)
- AMAL examples now default to the first AMAL program in the editor when opened (as with jAMAL)
- More examples were added demonstrating dynamic types, concurrent jAMOS programs and hybrid syntax
- jAMAL's startup sound is playable from the menu alongside jAMOS's
- Some minor bug-fixes
