AmigaOS 4 / MorphOS: Multitheme #1 - New questions for Ask Me Up XXL
Jérôme 'Glames' Senay's Ask Me Up is a "quiz of general knowledge" for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS (as well as Windows), in which you have to correctly answer 1700 questions, each with four possible answers. You can play it for yourself or together with up to five other players (four players using a joystick, the other two sharing the keyboard).
Now "Multitheme #1" can be purchased for ¤3,99 and is an add-on with 400 new questions. It is available in English, Spanish and French. It requires at least the 2.4.3 (CD) release of Ask Me Up XXL, but the latest version 2.6.0 is recommended. As examples, the following three questions are mentioned: "What is the emblem of the Stark family?", "When was Space Invaders released?" and "How many genes do humans and sea urchin have in common?".

ACube: Firmware update for Sam 440ep
ACube Systems has released a firmware update for his PPC-motherboards "Sam 440ep": The Mini-ITX as well as the Flex versions are supported. Mainly the changes are supposed to improve the compatibility with Radeon-HD graphic boards:
- improved gfx cards setup, it solves compatibility problems with some Radeon HD cards
- better internal PCI bridge setup for a slight faster RAM <-> VRAM transfer speed
- added PEX 8112 PCI – PCIE bridge setup (used on some Radeon HD PCI variant cards)
- added a new menu entry to enable/disable IRQ on an external PCI gfx card (try disabling IRQ if the system seems freezed after loading the AOS4.1 kickstart files, for example)
The update and the source codes can be downloaded at ACube. Both update methods - ISO-image or TFTP - are descibed in the "Installation Guide".

TCP stack: Roadshow 1.12
Press release: The Roadshow TCP/IP stack for the Amiga has been updated to version 1.12 and is available immediately. An updated demonstration version is available too, as well as the updated software development kit.
A free update is available for customers using Roadshow 1.11, upgrading it to version 1.12. Note: if you are still using Roadshow 1.8 you need to upgrade to version 1.11 first before you can upgrade to version 1.12.
The changes in Roadshow 1.12 are as follows:
- A buffer overflow bug has been fixed which could occur when
querying network interface hardware addresses. This bug could
cause the "ShowNetStatus" command to crash.
- The ftp command has been reworked, fixing bugs which had been
present for years (buffer overflows, etc.).
- Overlapping name resolution operations can no longer collide
with each other so easily and produce corrupt query data. This
problem could occur only very rarely.
- New API functions for name resolution have been added, which are
common in the Unix world, for which no alternatives had been
available before. These enhancements are new for Amiga
TCP/IP software in general.
- If Roadshow sets up a network interface using the DHCP protocol
it can now request that the DHCP server sends its responses
directly to Roadshow (unicast) instead of broadcasting them to
the local network.
- Changing the system clock time (e.g. during daylight saving
time transitions) no longer affect Roadshow's internal
time keeping.
- A new ready-made network configuration file for PCMCIA cards
using the "cnet16.device" driver is provided under
"Storage/NetInterfaces/CNet16").
- The reference documentation has been updated.
More detailed descriptions of the changes can be found in the "ReadMe" file of the Roadshow archive, and the SDK archive.

AmiWest: Dickinson and Solie talk about A-EON's and Hyperion's current projects
This year's AmiWest is taking place in Sacramento (USA) this weekend. The first presentation was a joint effort of Trevor Dickinson (A-EON) and Steven Solie. The latter was introduced as the "AmigaOS team leader", which he confirmed by replying "for now, hehe". Actually, Solie had stopped describing himself as "Team leader" a while ago and only referred to himself as the team's spokesperson, while Costel Mincea was supposed to act as Hyperion's technical director.
Dickinson and Solie gave short talks about A-EON's and Hyperion's current projects and then answered questions from the audience. The following topics were discussed during the presentation:
AmigaOne X5000
Dickinson officially announced the X5000 going on sale. Solie confirms that the Release Candidate of AmigaOS 4 for the X5000 is currently being tested and will be shipped with the computer. The onboard network controller is not supported yet, a replacement network interface card will be delivered with complete systems though. According to Solie, Multicore support has been deferred so the team could concentrate on finishing the X5000 port, but will be the focus once the X5000 version is shipping.
The cheapest complete systems will ship for 1700 GBP, which would be about 1900 Euro (excluding taxes and postage). Dickinson states he brought two bare X5000 motherboards to the show, which can be bought by visitors for 1350 USD (about 1200 Euro).
Tabor
The Tabor motherboard is currently booting into Workbench. The developer assigned to it is working hard to get it to a state where the rest of the team can help with the porting. Dickinson says the target price for Tabor is "below 400 Euro", the boards will be sold at net cost. A-EON is hoping that the increased userbase will result in improved software sales, which is how Tabor is supposed to make them money.
AmigaOS 4
The OS team is also working on "AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 1", a Release Candidate is curently being tested. Solie expects it to be released before the end of the year. Only one feature of the update is mentioned: extended memory is supposed to work properly now. While AmigaOS can still only adress two gigabytes of memory, up to four gigabytes are supported now and will be used by modules like the Ram Disk.
LibreOffice
The port of LibreOffice is said to be "usable" now, beta testing has just started. A copy of the office suite is apparently installed on one of the machines at the show, so that visitors can have a closer look.
Gutenprint
A-EON acquired Timothy 'Terminills' Deters' sources of his AROS port of Gutenprint, Tony Wyatt is working on adapting it to AmigaOS 4.
Amiga Enhancer
Work is ongoing on both a port to AmigaOS 3 and an update for the PPC version. Additionally, a cheaper version will be released that is not containing any of the parts that are not compatible with or useful on weaker machines - Warp 3D Nova is mentioned as an example.
A.l.i.c.e.
The laptop with preinstalled emulator environments will include officially licensed copies of both Amiga Forever and the Final Edition of AmigaOS 4.1. Additionally, a MUI license has been acquired from MUI's original author, Stefan Stuntz. Dickinson estimates that the cost of the entire package would be "a couple of hundred Euro" higher than that of the original laptop, due to all the software licenses. Assuming the laptop would cost 450 Euro, he thinks it might be possible to sell A.l.i.c.e. at 650 Euro.
Miscellaneous
Using amigadeveloper.com, A-EON is currently managing 50 projects with 22 paid developers working on them. The SVN repository has recieved 2885 commits so far. 900 customers registered for Amistore and purchased about 3000 items. Amistore is currently offering about 50 titles. (cg)

French MorphOS group established file archive and and small ads platform
For some time WArMUp ("World Association of MorphOS Users") provides a separate archive for MorphOS software, which is supposed to replace the closed MorphOS-Files and wants to become a competition to the Aminet: MorphOS Storage offers screenshots, links to Youtube videos and a comment function.
Simultaneously the maintainer also has established the MorphOS Store, which is a snall ads platform for MorphOS users: Registered users can publish offers and requests in different categories for hardware and software. The website is available in different languages but currently the English and German translations are incomplete - the maintainers would be grateful for any support.

MOD-Streaming: AmiModRadio 0.994
AmiModRadio can play over twenty thousand music moduls from the Aminet. In version 0.994 now almost all parts of the graphical user-interface are working, the lists with directories, files and mods are presented in different windows and the "auto-ban"-function leaves out lowly rated moduls. Besides, some minor bugs have been fixed.
AmiModRadio is free software, the C source code is available on Bitbucket. The author asks the users to use its bugtrucker for reporting bugs.

Similar to AmiModRadio, the Hollywood-programm ModExplorer plays music modules from the Internet but also supports the Aminet, Modland and modules.pl. The tool is available for all Amiga systems.
As the author explained on a1k.org, version 0.9a among others offers a minimalist "streamer", a (still not finished) ARexx port as well as thanks to the update of MUI Royale the possibility to use the MUI version on Amigas without having a graphic card.

AROS: StackMon 0.1
For his own needs, Yannick Erb has written a little stack monitor based on the source codes of SysMon to see, "how much stack my apps are actually using".
After launching the programm, "just select the task/process you want to look at. If task/process is not in the list click on Refresh button or select auto refresh (task list will be updated every second)." After choosing the tasks/processes, you get two information: The currently used stack (used in the last 20ms) as well as the maximum ("measured while the current task is selected").

Playable previews: Bridge Strike and Small Cars Drag Race
"Bridge Strike" (Youtube video) developed by the Tanks Furry authors is a vertically scrolling Shoot'em Up. The first demo version requires an Amiga with 68020-processor and one Megabyte RAM. It is a very early beta version, the authors recommend to start the game without startup-sequence. So far Bridge Strike was successfully tested on an Amiga 500 with Kickstart 1.3 and on an A600.
S.C.D.R. ("Small Cars Drag Race", Youtube video) simulates a drag racing, where two cars compete. The game was developed on an A500 with one Megabyte RAM.

Hollywood: MUI Royale 1.4
Press release: Airsoft Softwair is proud to present the immediate availability of MUI Royale 1.4. The biggest new feature in MUI Royale 1.4 is the ability to run MUI Royale 1.4 on palette-based screens. If the Plananarama plugin is installed, it is also possible to open Hollywood displays next to MUI windows managed by MUI Royale. On top of that, MUI Royale 1.4 contains various bug fixes and adds support for some more MUI classes.
MUI Royale requires at least Hollywood 5.2 and is provided free of charge for all users of Hollywood. It is available for AmigaOS 3.x (m68k), AmigaOS 4 (PPC), MorphOS (PPC) and AROS (x86). The package comes with over 20 example scripts, many of which are direct ports from the MUI 3.8 SDK by Stefan Stuntz, but there are also original developments like demonstrations of how to create a video player using the combined power of Hollywood and MUI. On top of that MUI Royale comes with extensive documentation in over 300 PDF pages which are also available in the HTML, AmigaGuide and CHM formats thanks to the Hollywood documentation system.
All this makes MUI Royale the truly royal MUI experience, carefully crafted for you Kings and Queens of MUI!

Playable demo: Alarcity - Survival Mode (AGA)
A month ago, there was a first preview video, now a playable demo for AGA-Amigas and CD32 is available: Alarcity is supposed to become a shooter with several levels and a story, but also offers a "survival mode" in which the player has to survive as long as possible.
The playable demo demonstrates this mode. Later the survival mode is supposed to be avaialbe as free download, while the actual game (inclusive survival mode) will be commercially sold.
Due to the early stage of development the demo has been not tested on many Amiga configurations. Pure AGA-computers as well as WinUAE obviously work without any problems, but according to the developers many CPU-upgrades cause graphic bugs.

Assembler: vasm 1.7f
Frank Wille has released an update of the assembler vasm. As usual Wille does not provide vasm binaries except with the vbcc compiler distribution. If you are interested in, you have to compile the assembler on your own. Changes in version 1.7f:
- Print a warning when a constant is not representable using the target data type.
- Show warnings or errors when an expression overflows the backend's address data types.
- Warn about overflows caused by negative expressions in space directives.
- New option -chklabels makes vasm issue a warning when a label conflicts with a mnemonic or directive name.
- Reworked internal relocation representation.
- m68k: Base-displacement addressing modes and suppressed registers are allowed for CPU32. Just memory-indirect is illegal.
- m68k: Added FJcc mnemonics for GNU-as compatibility (-gas option).
- PPC: Added complete support for 403, 405, 440, 460, Book-E, e300 and e500 instruction sets.
- 6800: Fixed a bug which suppressed command line options for syntax- and output-modules.
- 6800: Support for 6801/6803 compatible CPUs added (contributed by Adrien Destugues).
- ARM: Thumb-mode [PC,#imm] and [SP,#imm] addressing modes were not recognized.p ARM: Fixed thumb-mode SP-adjustment instructions: ADD SP,#<9-bit unsigned> and SUB SP,#<9-bit unsigned> (missing).
- ARM: External subroutine calls in thumb-mode with BL were broken.
- x86: Fixed determining the operation size when last register is %DX.
- x86: 32-bit only instructions failed, when selecting a 32-bit cpu using the -m command line option.
- x86: Avoid Illegal Relocation error for calls and jumps in absolute mode.
- std-syntax: Data directives do no longer enforce natural alignment, for compatibility with GNU-as! Use the -align option to keep the old behaviour.
- std-syntax: '0f' is another allowed float-constant prefix for GNU-as compatibility.
- std-syntax: .stabs should support escape-characters in its string-field.
- std-syntax: Support progbits and nobits section type arguments for ELF compatibility.
- mot-syntax: Retain the possibility to use multiple ORG directives and output a real binary file, as before V1.7e. Only an ORG directive after a SECTION directive is now relocated within that section.
- mot-syntax: Added IFMI (=IFLT) and IFPL (=IFGE).
- mot-syntax: Fixed problems when macro arguments are followed by blanks and the -spaces option is given.
- mot-syntax: New directives inline and einline, to define an isolated block for local labels.
- mot-syntax: New directives ifmacrod and ifmacrond to conditionally assemble a block when a macro is defined or undefined (compatible with the same directives on the Barfly assembler).
- madmac-syntax: Make ORG behave like in mot-syntax.
- vobj-output: The byte-offset to a relocation now always defines the base for all relocation calculations (e.g. PC-relative).
- vobj-output: For little-endian the bit position in a byte of a reloc-field is now counted from right to left. You will need at least vlink V0.15b to link more complex little-endian relocations (e.g. ARM).
- hunk-output: -keepempty prevents the assembler from deleting empty sections.
- elf-output: -keepempty prevents the assembler from deleting empty sections.

DVD: Amiga Future Archive 3
The Amiga Future Archive 3 DVD was released. In fact, it has already been published at the Gamescom, but we had simply no time to announce the release. The Amiga Future Archive 3 includes the following Amiga Future releases as PDF:
- German: Amiga Future Issue 11-115
- English: Amiga Future issue 67-115
Issue 11 to 26 have been scanned. All other issues are PDFs in print quality. The issue 11 was the first German Amiga Future that was published. The issue 67 was the first English edition of the Amiga Future.
There is no upgrade path from earlier version of the Amiga Future Archive DVD. And since we were often asked this at the Gamescom: The next DVD will be released somewhere in 2018 :) (cg)

Datenbank: MUIbase 3.3
Already three weeks ago, Steffen Gutmann released an update of his relational, programmable database with graphical user interface for AmigaOS 3.x, AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS. Changes of version 3.3:
- Remembers the print settings in the preferences
- When a new project needs to be saved in order to continue, let the user save a project instead of showing an error message that a project name has to be set
- Warn user when changing choice labels in the structure editor when there are existing records. Changing the choice labels does not update the label indices stored in records. Also warn about duplicate and empty labels
- Windows/Mac OS X/Linux versions: reflect changes to labels immediately when editing labels
- Improved year completing when entering date values. When entering a one or two digit year, 1900 or 2000 is added depending on which result is closer to the current year. Similar for three digit years
- Updated French translation by Stéphane Aulery
- Converted all catalog translations to the PO file format. This makes it easier to maintain translations and add additional languages
- New version of the ImportSample project with a custom import function
