WHDLoad: New installers until 14.04.2018

Book: "MorphOS - Volume One" in English, volume 2 in Polish available
The English-language version of the first volume of the two-volume book about the operating system MorphOS wriiten by Adam Zalepa (amiga-news.de reported) is supposed to be available from next week.
The first volume of the tutorial, originally published in 2016, is about the basics like booting from CD, the installation and the most important settings and the Shell. The second volume which will be published in Polnish this month, already regarding MorphOS 3.10, is about additional details, e.g. network, different file formats and file systems, data compression and data recovery, ARexx, Lua and emulation.

FPGA: Apollo-Core-Update Gold 2.9
The Apollo core is a FPGA-reimplementation of Motorolas m68k-series, which also provides a separate graphic mode called SAGA. Currently the core is used in the accelerator boards 600 V2 and 500 V2(+). All changes are listed under the title link:
- Better support for fast Power-Off/On of the Amiga
- Allow software to turn off built-in Map-ROM to access on-board ROM-Chip
- Map-ROM mapping support for Atari ROMs
- Memory management support for Atari Memory map
- FPU speed-up (now 51 MFlops at x11 according to SysInfo)
- FPU fully working under Atari OS
- Pressing Fire buttons on Power-On will boot EmuTOS (Atar OS)

AROS: ZunePaint 0.12, ZuneView 0.38
Yannick Erb has updated his "ZuneTools" including ZunePaint, which is a simple bitmap graphic program, and ZuneView, which is picture viewer with editing functions. Both tools now can save pictures as ILBM files.

APC&TCP takes over distribution of Reshoot and Reshoot R
Press release: APC&TCP is pleased to announce that the distribution of the well-known Amiga Games Reshoot and its successor Reshoot R has been taken over. Reshoot is now available in the APC&TCP online shop. In addition, a download version of Reshoot is now available directly from APC&TCP. Resellers who want to offer Reshoot to their customers, contact APC&TCP via email. Reshoot R is still under development and is expected to be released later this year.
APC&TCP has been active as an Amiga publisher for over 25 years and always looks for good and interesting Amiga products for release. If anyone is interested in selling his product via APC&TCP...just write an email.

Crowdfunding: New Amiga-500 cases
After the Amiga-1200 cases and keyboard caps, Philippe Lang has started another crowdfunding project for financing the production of new cases for the Amiga 500 and 500+.
The new cases are not only supposed to replace the yellowed and recalcitrant cases but can also be equipped with the standalone version of the accelerator board Vampire V4 instead of an Amiga-500 board. For this and the Vampire-V2-A500 there are port extension for USB, HDMI and SD-card ports. Plastics used for the case are treated Anti-UV.

Ex-employee of TAO Group talked about Elate and Amiga DE
In January of 2000 the new Amiga owner Amiga, Inc. announced a co-operation with the British TAO Group. Its product called Elate/Intent enabled the development of applications which are independent from the processor - which Amiga Inc. wanted to use to establish its Elate-based "AmigaDE" to as many as devices (handhelds, desktop computers, set-top-boxes).
Since 1991 the predecessor product of Elate called "TAOS" was introduced in the British issue of the magazine Byte. Meanwhile the arcticle also is available online. David Given, an ex-employee of TAO Group, took the corresponding discussion for reporting about the development of the system and to point out its strengths and weaknesses. He also talked about the co-operaqtion with Amiga, Inc.
The plan was that Amiga provides the customer support which the little TAO Group were not able to. David Given wrote: "We had a fling with Amiga pretty late on, and were the technology behind Amiga Anywhere, which nobody ever cared about. (Although we did actually get a few external users. The sheer novelty of this was hard to handle.)"

MorphOS: Public beta test of new email client Iris
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek, member of the MorphOS team, has released an early beta version of the forthcoming MorphOS standard email client. "Iris" supports IMAP as well as viewing and writing HTML eMails with pictures and different fonts. You can get more information in the corresponding posts of the MorphZone.

AmigaOS update: Further details to AmigaOS 3.1.4
In a discussion on amiga.org, the developers Thomas 'Thor' Richter and Olaf 'Olsen' Barthel have informed about the current status of the development of their updates for AmigaOS 3.1 called "3.1.4". Additional to diverse bug fixes and the changes which are known since the Amiga32, among others the following changes will be added:
- The update will include a new version of "DiskDoktor" which "examine the contents of the volume, looking for defects and copy the contents of the directory tree to a different volume". Large volumes and long file names are supported. The new version of DiskDoktor only requires 1 Megabyte dealing with a 1 Gigabyte partition, and 8 Megabytes for a 8 Gigabyte partition.
- A replacement for the CD file system CDFS: A backport of the CD file system of of AmigaOS 4 (currently without supporting mixed-mode CDs, UDF, HFS and HFS-plus) which supports the new mount options "NoNSD", "DirectSCSI" and "SuperFloppy". Besides, "Mask", "Maxtransfer" and "BufMemType" are honoured.
- "CrossDos now also supports long file names, FAT32, FAT24 and FAT16."
- CrossDOS as well as the new CDFS now are multithreaded, that means they do not freeze the Workbench any longer while working.
- Obviously the Workbench developed by Olaf Barthel from AmigaOS 3.5+ is used - or at least part of it: Richter mentioned that replacements for the prefs programs of Workbench and ASL have to be used since Reaction was removed.
- The programs MagTape and Edit were removed from the distribution. Edit "suffered from several bugs and limitations".
- workbench.library and icon.library "are already too large to fit into the ROMs", they will be on disks. They will also take more RAM, "so that there is less left on the low-end machines. It will probably not work with 512K alone."
Richter pointed out that many parts of the new features still have to be tested. The developers are looking for new beta testers.

AROS: Weekly progresses since 26th February
Neil Cafferkey has published the latest progresses on the open source AmigaOS clone called AROS:
- Allow kernel debug output to be captured by Sashimi, Bifteck etc. (neil)
- Fixed a problem with software interrupts that caused stuttering in HDAudio playback when ACPI was enabled (neil)
- Allow CPU to sleep again when no task is running and ACPI is disabled; avoids VMs stealing host CPU time for no reason and saves power when running natively (neil)
- ICU library V60.2 ported for future use with Odyssey (wawa)
- Implemented retrieval and usage of all PCI IRQ routing tables from ACPI (instead of just the one for the root bus). This solves the problem of some devices having incorrect IRQ numbers when ACPI is enabled (e.g. wired and wireless network interfaces on the Acer AspireOne A110 and A150 work again) (neil)

Introduction to Objective-C under MorphOS 3.10
Objective-C is an "object-oriented programming language that adds Smalltalk-style messaging to the C programming language". Due to the conceptual similarity to BOOPSI ("Basic Object Oriented Programming System for Intuition"), Objective-C now is used in MorphOS to simplify creating and using new (MUI-) classes. On the website of the MorphOS project you can "read more about the implementation details and how MorphOS developers will be able to use these new frameworks".

MorphOS: RegisterISO 1.12 fixes problem with MorphOS 3.10 ISO file
Guido 'Geit' Mersmann's RegisterISO is a little tool to inject the MorphOS keyfile into any MorphOS ISO file. Previously, an overflow in the buffer offset calculation was triggered by the MorphOS 3.10 ISO file, so that it got patched at the wrong place. Version 1.12 of RegisterISO fixes the problem. (snx)

MorphOS 3.10 released
Press release: The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the immediate availability of MorphOS 3.10, which represents one of the biggest updates in its history yet. This brand new version introduces support for AmigaOne X5000 systems as well as A-EON X5000 mainboards, and it greatly expands the general hardware compatibility by adding numerous new drivers for graphics cards, scanners, network cards, SATA controllers, and USB audio devices.
Furthermore, MorphOS 3.10 brings Flow Studio, which is an integrated development environment that offers features such as a built-in source level debugger and seamless MorphOS shell access.
In addition to many bug fixes and general performance improvements, MorphOS 3.10 also provides varied user interface and usability improvements (screenshot). This release includes modern themes, new fonts, and support for vector graphics, such as SVG icons, as well as time zones via Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

WHDLoad: New installers until 24.03.2018
Using WHDLoad, you can install games, scene demos and intros from cracking groups to your harddisk that were only working from floppy disks previously. The following installers have been added until March 24th, 2018:
- 2018-03-22 improved: UFO - Enemy Unknown (Microprose) OCS version supported, new install script, minor fixes (Info)
- 2018-03-19 improved: Ambermoon (Thalion) support for caches and fast memory, german keymap added, minor fixes (Info)

AmigaOS 4: Jump'n'run game Spencer available (Update)
The jump'n'run game "Spencer" developed by EntwicklerX (amiga-news.de reported) has been almost completed for AmigaOS 4 and should be available still this weekend. Additional to the full version for Windows on Steam, now a trial version for AmigaOS 4 was released.
The authors have pointed out that the game "runs best with Warp3D Nova". It is recommended to update Warp3D Nova and OpenGLES2 to the latest version. For the AmigaOne X1000 and X5000 a screen resolution of 1080p should be possible (or 720p with antialiasing). On a Sam 460 it can be played with a screen resolution of 720p.

Meanwhile the game has been finalized for AmigaOS 4 as well and can be purchased at AmiStore. The required libraries are available through the Updater, the game needs ogles2.library 1.19, W3DN_SI.library 1.47 and Warp3D_Nova.library 1.47. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Data backup: Quarterback source code released
Under the title link the source code of the backup program Quarterback has been released on Aminet under the GPL. Olaf Barthel did analyze it and recommends to use partitions with less than four gigabytes "with the partitions residing completely within the first 4 Gigabytes of a storage medium".

MorphOS: PkZIP-GUI InstantZip 3.3
Carsten Siegner's InstanzZip (screenshot) is a graphical user-interface for PkZIP as well as in version 3.3 for the xad.library of MorphOS as well. Therefore now it is possible to extract archives which were compressed with RAR, LHA, BZIP2 or other algorithms.
But only the XAD client provided by Fabien 'Fab' Coeurjoly works without any problems (link below), the Aminet version cannot be recommended. The corresponding 7z client does not correctly extract but does properly list the content.

Interview: Predecessor to Blender was developed on the Amiga

FPGA: Apollo-Core-Update Gold 2.8 / SAGA driver 1.2
The Apollo core is a FPGA-reimplementation of Motorolas m68k-series, which also provides a separate graphic mode called SAGA. Currently the core is used in the accelerator boards 600 V2 and 500 V2(+). Changes in the latest core "Gold 2.8":
- Improved HDMI DMA support for misaligned Screen Pointers
- Minor FPU fix
- A500 RTC fix
- Improved SDcard / SDNet
- V500+ Expansion port enabled (Ethernet/USB/.you_name_it.)
A new version of the P96 driver for SAGA was released as well - changes in SAGA drivers 1.2:
- Updated SDNet.device to 1.2
- Some more work on TX stability
- Should recover from ENC Module hangs more often
- Aligned with future EXPnet

Minesweeper clone with online highscores: SweepOut 1.1
Julien 'Crisot' Cervellera's SweepOut (Youtube video) is a clone of the Windows classic Minesweeper, which offers 100 different series each with eight levels. The highscores of a series are saved on a central server on Internet so the players can compete with each other. After some beta releases now the official version 1.1 of the game is available.

Ethernet driver for Tabor reaching beta status (update)
A-EON has been pointing out for quite a while that the Tabor motherboard is finished and the only thing preventing sales to end users is a port of AmigaOS 4 to the hardware. The biggest roadblocks usually listed are the FPU emulation and a driver for the onboard ethernet chip.
Earlier this month in a posting on amigaworld.net, the distributor adressed this problem more blatantly than usual by pointing out that Costel Mincea from Hyperion Entertainment had been contracted in August 2015 and paid in full in September 2015 to develop and/or finish ethernet drivers for X1000, X5000 and Tabor. Today, the 'Updater' component of A-EON's commercial Enhancer bundle started offering an 'a1222eth.device' to users (Screenshot).
According to our information, this is not the driver Mincea has been working on, A-EON contracted another developer to write a driver instead. This has not been confirmed in public yet, but A-EON betatesters and external developers are also referring to the newly released driver as "A-EON's own driver" in a discussion on os4welt.de (German).

In a posting on os4welt.de (German) Mincea reacts to Amigakit's claims by vehemently denying that he was "ever paid any money" for the ethernet driver: According to him, his payment for the driver was a tabor motherboard and nothing else. Since Mincea was busy with a multitude of other tasks related to the development and distribution of AmigaOS 4, finishing the network driver simply got delayed.
Since ethernet could also be accessed using a USB to ethernet converter, Mincea had to take care of other, more pressing issues first. Payment for the X1000 ethernet driver was also just a X1000 motherboard, that driver hasn't been finished yet for the same reason as the Tabor driver: lack of time and relatively low priority. (cg)

Emulator: A/NES PRO 1.20
A/NES Pro is a NES emulator written in assembler, which requires ECS or AGA, at least a 68020 processor and some megabyte FastRAM. In version 1.20 some minor optimizations of the CPU and PPU emulation are included.

Hyperion sued Amiga Inc., Amino, Itec and Cloanto
In the legal dispute about Amiga trademarks in USA and Europe, on 13th March in USA Hyperion sued all parties which are directly or indirectly involved. A request which still is not publicly available named "Complaint for Declaratory Judgement and Breach of Contract" (etwa: "Feststellungsklage wegen Vertragsbruch") the following companies are listed as defendant:
Currently it is not clear to which this lawsuit relates. According to the title and the time of the filing it can be speculated that Hyperion considers his rights being infringed by the inactivity ofItec/Amiga with regard to the protection of the US trademark.
We are going to publish a summary of the situation.

Developer tool: vasm 1.8c
Frank Wille has released an update for the modular assembler vasm.
Changes:
- Relocated ORG blocks within a section were not recognized, when their start address was 0
- The count in repeat-directives is always unsigned, even when given as a negative value
