Print magazine: Amiga Future 71 - preview
Press release: The excerpts and a detailed description of contents of the Amiga Future 71 (March/April 2008) are available now.

Again we have many reviews in this issue. The new version of YAM has been reviewed as well as OWB and Hollywood 3. With regard to Hollywood, we also have a workshop on it in this issue. Of course, specials like the Amiga Retrospective are included also.

On the cover CD we have some full versions PLUS the full version of Monzoom.

The German and English editions of the Amiga Future are going to be released on 5th March. They can be pre-ordered now. The Amiga Future is available as a subscription and single issue directly from the editorial office and some Amiga dealers. If some dealer has an interest in stocking Amiga Future please contact us at Andreas@amigafuture.de.

We are looking for 2 or 3 translators for the English edition of the Amiga Future. If you have some time and want to work with us at the Amiga Future then please send an e-mail to Andreas@amigafuture.de.

The Amiga Future is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Because of this we have some special offers on the main page of our online shop. (cg) (Translation: cg)

AmigaOS 4: FTP-Client PFTP 0.2 (update)
PFTP (screen shot) by Peter Gordon offers unlimited windows, server-to-server transfers and drag'n drop support. Changes in version 0.2:
  • Now copes with multi-line responses that don't start every line with a code and a dash. Thanks to James Carroll for the report.
  • Fixed a DSI that could occasionally happen during FTP to FTP transfers
  • Properly copes with 125 responses for the LIST command. Thanks to Dwayne Jarvis for the report.
  • Now updates CPS information for active transfers even when they stall.
  • When warning you about potentially overwriting a local file, it gives you the current stats about the existing files size and date rather than the ones in the local browser, in case they have changed in the meantime.
  • When sending a local file, it rechecks the local files length before starting the transfer instead of relying on the possibly stale value in the local browser window.
  • Properly copes with servers that don't put a leading zero in the hours column. Thanks to Dwayne Jarvis for his help nailing this one.
  • Reordered the transfer queue columns so that the basic information is all to the left and the source/destination directories are at the far end (file,%,cps, srcdir, destdir instead of srcdir/file,destdir,%,cps).
  • You can now specify the path to the ssh executable if you don't wish to keep it in the system searchpath. Simply specify the path where ssh resides in a "SSHPATH" tooltype. Sorry I can't remember who suggested this.
  • You can now specify a local path to go to when you connect to a server (see docs).
  • Transfers in the queue now have a fancy progress bar behind the percentage readout.
  • Passwords are now encrypted in the .servers file. Old .server files with plaintext passwords will be automatically converted when you quit PFTP or connect to a server.

Update: (21.02.2008, 16:00, cg)

Meanwhile an improved version is available where one minor bug (requesting drive "Blah:") has been removed. (cg) (Translation: ub)

Puzzle game: Follia NBA
Simone Bevilacqua has published an update of his puzzle game Follia NBA. In this game you must put together different NBA logos (screenshot).

Because the author has created the update using an emulator he asks for your feedback if there are problems on "real" Amigas.

Back to the Roots: Server work
Ralf Steines writes: In a few hours we will take down our team machine to replace it with a ten times faster and bigger machine. If all goes right this will last a few hours only.

The team machine runs all hosted projects (such as winuae.net) and the upload FTP, so these are unreachable for the time the move lasts. The main archive and the anonymous FTP should not be affected by this.

The team server needs a new os and new hardware. Once the machine is configured completely (mostly an invisible task) we'll look forward to new updates.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

AROS: Status update February 2008
On the website of the AROS-Team there is an overview about the latest news concerning the AmigaOS-clone "AROS Research Operating System" (AROS):

Michal Schulz is working hard on porting AROS to Acube Systems SAM440 board, and he got some interesting results.

Nic Andrews is working on Wanderer, in order to improve it and fix some annoying bugs. He is now "slowly hacking away at reworking the rendering code for wanderer iconlist class. The intermediate goal is to allow icon windows to buffer the icon/background rendering so, for instance, using the tiled rendering mode for iconlist backgrounds wont cause noticable icon flickering as it currently does".

Michael Grunditz has officially released the first SimpleMail 0.32 betas for the AROS Research Operating System. SimpleMail has most of the features currently needed in a modern email client, and it's still growing. The AROS port can be downloaded from the Archives.

Joćo "Hardwired" Ralha has recently written some good manuals for AROS. However, they are not finished, and he is currently looking for help. Available documents are the AROS User Manual (50% complete), the AROS Shell Manual (70%) and the AROS Istall Manual (25%).

Additionally Alain Greppin has ported TeXlive to AROS and Tomek 'Error' Wiszkowski has published a AROS-version of his CD-/DVD-burning program Frying Pan. The AROS-file system FFS was improved and got proper validation. (cg) (Translation: dr)
