SN-AnlagenArchiv 0.803 released, SN-EuroArchiv ceased
SN-AnlagenArchiv is an assets management for gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Steffen Nitz has now published version 0.803, which contains besides a small bugfix in the graphic user interface the up-to-date stock exchange prices of the four noble metals up to 7 April 2006.

A further development of SN-EuroArchiv is for the time being to be ceased completely, as the author Steffen Nitz has lost interest in euro coins.

Now he only collects gold coins and silver bullions, so the further development of SN-AnlagenArchiv is guaranteed. Mediaeval coins of the town of Stralsund are still being collected, for what a further development of SN-MünzArchiv II is being considered. (cg) (Translation: iw)

Record of a IRC-Meeting with Dave Haynie at 1. Mai 1994
Linked to the header is for nostalgic people a modified record of a IRC-meeting with Dave 'hazy' Haynie from the 1. May 1994 - therefore two days after the official insolvency of Commodore.

As one of the last 22 employers of Commodore in West Chester, he reported at that time about the actual situation and the undesirable development which was responsible for the decline of the computer-manufactor and beside about the "Deathbed Vigil"-Video which was filmed several days before by him. Costel "Cyborg" Mincea (E-Mail)

AmigaOne: Centralized order for onboard soundchips
The AC97 soundchip (Sigmatel STAC9752T) installed on the first few batches of AmigaOne motherboards has been removed in later production runs as it seemed that it wouldn't work anyway due to a hardware bug.

But Davy Wentzler and Stephen Brookes proved later on that the problem could be solved in software and released a working audio driver.

Until now, people that wanted to fit the missing chip onto their AmigaOne motherboard were facing the problem that said chip didn't seem to be available anymore. Costel 'Cyborg' Mincea now found a dealer that still has the Sigmatel STAC9752T in stock.

The final price for one single Sigmatel STAC9752T chip depends on the volume of the order, this is why Mincea now asks all interested users to contact him until 17.April via e-mail and tell him the quantity they would be interested in. Mincea stresses the fact that this email is not a real order, he only needs to gauge the actual demand to to get a quotation from the dealer.

On April 18th, Mincea will ask the dealer for the price of an order with the ascertained quantities, end users will then be able to order chips from him.

Warning: The AC97 soundchip is not socketed, it needs to be soldered to the AmigaOne motherboard by the end user. You should be very familiar with that kind of soldering jobs, otherwise you should better ask somebody who is. (cg) (Translation: aj)

APC&TCP takes distribution of CygnusEd
APC&TCP is proud to announce that it has taken the distribution of the well known text editor CygnusEd. CygnusEd will be able to run on the classic Amiga and AmigaOS 4. A version supporting MorphOS is planned. In only a few weeks the program will be available. The support homepage for CygnusED will be online in a few days aswell. About CygnusEd Professional Release 5 The maybe most famous text editor for developers was developed by Bruce Dawson, Colin Fox & Steve LaRocque (CygnusSoft Software) 20 years ago and was originally published by themselves. Already at that time CygnusEd has been known for its speed and solidness. CygnusEd has been developed even further in the following years and was one of the first programs with an ARexx interface and the first Amiga text editor with Undo/Redo functions. Many Amiga developers grew up with CygnusEd and a lot of software for the Amiga was developed using CygnusEd. The last version 4 of CygnusEd was published in 1997 and was a fully reworked version adapted to AmigaOS 3.1. The new version 5 of CygnusEd has been enriched with new functions and it is even faster and more solid. The helping tool "Ed" has been rewritten completely from scratch and is supplied with CygnusEd including the complete sources. Many old restrictions and flaws of CygnusEd have been eliminated. Version 5 is also the first version ported completely with all helping tools to the PowerPC processors and one of the first completely adapted commercial products for AmigaOS 4. Bernd Roesch (ANF)

AfA: AROS for AmigaOS 3.93
After the beta version 1 (reported by amiga-news.de), Bernd Roesch has now released the final version 3.93 of AfA under the title link. "AROS for AmigaOS" extends the latter with functions of the aforementioned operating system.

Compared to the beta version, the following additional improvements exist:
  • Ken Lester has created a Prefs icon for AfA
  • The penfree textmode now works correctly with rastports without layers - otherwise, no further problems have occurred with the integration of the penfree mode
  • A deadlock was corrected, which occurred in the Listview gadget of the Stormwizard user interface as well as on slow systems with Truetype fonts and anti-aliasing, after the slider was moved very fast continuously for about eight seconds
  • The oop.library of AROS, which offers object-oriented functions, has been compiled for Amiga/68k by Michal Schulz and is enclosed
  • Errors in the picture_datatype.exe file have been corrected, the version number has been increased to 46 as well, as a V45 had already existed
  • When using MagicMenu, the background image will now be shown as well
  • By means of an error correction in AROS by Georg Steger, IFF-ILBM pictures with 256 colors or less can now be supported and thus used, for instance, as a background by AmiStart as well, with the dtm_readpixelarray
  • The ILBM datatype of AROS has been enclosed, after several users had reported problems and slowdowns when using IFF pictures, particularly under CyberGraphX
Should you have any problems with the AROS-ILBM datatype, please report these to the author and delete the ilbm_datatype.exe file from the SYS:afa_os_libs directory.

Likewise, you are asked to give feedback on possible problems that still exist with the picture datatype. Should you delete the picture_datatype.exe file, you should proceed in the same way with the ilbm_datatype.exe file, as this one does not work without the picture datatype. Otherwise, though it does not crash, corresponding Openlibrary calls to the version 46 of the picture datatype take place. (snx) (Translation: cad)
