New compilation of FTPMount
Martin Elsner writes:
Alessandro Marinuzzi had some interesting ideas and an Italian catalog - so we updated FTPMount which can now be installed without permanent changes to your system - if you want ;)

I must confess that the executable is still the same, but I have just managed to compile it with StormC3 - it's a bit bigger, but I can now make some changes, so if you have some important ideas ...

Available on Aminet and on my homepage.

BlitzBasic

Programming Language: BlitzBasic (PC) Version 1.76
The BlitzBASIC update to version 1.76 has appeared. There are some bugfixes and a very interesting new texture flag 256. This makes it possible to draw textures much more quickly "on the fly" than was possible with normal texture flags up until now.

Additionally practical tests can now be performed that function perfectly, even with ScaleMesh() and multitexturing! (ps) (Translation: dm)

Albrecht Kinzkofer (E-Mail)

Hot: Hard Times for Internet Businesses (Update)
Yesterday Albrecht Kinzhofer brought the above article to our attention. In the article it is described that the Frankfurt credit card service provider EuroCard Systems made a contract with one customer, who does Web shipments. The reason is that there were too many dishonest customers.

Kinzhofer fears that this new development could affect many Amiga dealers, who only have the ability to pay COD, where the costs are usually bundled in with the price the customer pays.

We want to inquire of Amiga dealers, software houses and others, if they have had similarly bad experiences and what consequences have arisen from that.

Update:
In the comments section on the German side there have been many interesting points of view and other bits of information. (ps) (Translation: dm)

In response to the request of www.amiga-news.de reader Flinx we are starting a poll, in which you are asked to provide your opinion of the current Amiga One sales promotion.

The following possible answers are provided:
  • I want to buy an Amiga One and am taking part in the $50 coupon & t-shirt promotion
  • I want to buy an Amiga One, and I would buy a $50 coupon & t-shirt but only from a local German dealer
  • I want to buy an Amiga One but without any preorder, and I want to have a good look at it first
  • I am looking for another solution

Have fun voting! (ps) (Translation: dm)

AmigaOS XL: Experiences with the H&P Big Tower 1800+ (V 1.27)
In my report, I describe the experiences I have made with the Big-Tower. Version 1.27 of the report contains several additions in the chapters "AmigaXL", "QNX" and "Software". The software table has been optically improved. Furthermore, I have a little goody for my loyal readers. But I won't tell more here.

Note: Amiga-Voyager shows only ads instead of the pictures. Therefore, I still recommend to use AWeb or disable background images in Amiga-Voyager. A move to a better server is to come after my vacation. But at that time, amiga-news.de will be on vacation. I hope that someone has written a report about Amithlon 2.0 until then. ;-) (ps)

Amiga Future: Poll - "What OS do you prefer on the Pegasos?"
Today a new poll (in German) was started on the Amiga Future homepage: "What OS do you prefer on the Pegasos?" Additionally, the results of the last poll have been published in the interactive area.

Note: English speakers can probably handle this with these short instructions:
  1. go to page linked at title of this article
  2. click on the word "interactive" on that page
  3. make your selection in the yellow box on the next page
  4. click "abstimmen" to vote.

Good luck! -DM (ps) (Translation: dm)

IRC-Client: BenderIRC version 1.5b11 released
BenderIRC is a freeware IRC client, which works without MUI. The new release includes not only some bugfixes but it is possible now to use several channels at the same server and there is also a new window scrolling possibility but this is still a bit rudimentary.

Ruediger Hanke/ScummVM Team (ANF)

ScummVM: Trouble with the law
Users of MorphOS- and AmigaOS versions of the GPL engine ScummVM for playing LucasArts adventures are maybe interested in this: The ScummVM-Team was forced by LucasArts to shut down the site to July, 1st, because of viloation of rights upon the SPU engine.

The eMail from LucasArts and the answer of the project leader of ScummVM, James Brown, is published on the ScummVM developers list (title link).

The arguments in the answer are dealing with an error (maybe LucasArts thought it was "Abandonware" presented for download). Because ScummVM was disassenbled out of LucasArts program code, it is maybe possible that it is illegal in the USA, as a violation of the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act). But this is just guesswork of someone. We have to wait for an answer of LucasArts. (ps) (Translation: gf)

SixK Port: Reaction Mysql Client 0.2
Comment from SixK: Here is an early alpha release of RMC. This MySql client is actually the same as the Mui Mysql Client. I have put on my old site: sixk.maniasys.com except it has been written with reaction and is far more stable. Current limitations are only select work, (insert and update untested, but may crash) and only 10000 cells are permitted and only 10 columns.

I hope to progress a bit more faster than with MUI since I didn't have to care with hooks anymore ;) (ps) (Translation: gf)
