infoSync: Amiga gets into Linux PDAs
Under the title "Amiga gets into Linux PDAs" and the highlighted heading "When Sharp's Linux-based Zaurus PDA hits the U.S. and Europe, software developed by old-timer Amiga will provide that old black magic." some positive news about AmigaDE on the Zaurus of Sharp was published on the infoSync website.

The announcement briefly describes the value of Amiga during the 80s and 90s and the capabilities of AmigaDE and Zaurus. However, no distinction was made between AmigaDE and Zaurus. (sd) (Translation: sr)

AmigaDE: games and jobs from Kaliko
Kaliko, the makers of 'Last in Line', a puzzle/board game, which came fourth in the Top Ten AmigaDE Games of 2001, have now announced their line-up of AmigaDE games for 2002:
  • BrainTeaser (March/April)
  • Kaliko Minigolf (March/April)
  • Pirate's Puzzle (April/June)

"BrainTeaser: the furry edition" is being developed in cooperation with Quality Team, the makers of the action adventure 'Sixth Sense Investigations'.

BrainTeaser is a game similar to Tetris in which you have to link three or more blocks with the same picture so that they will disappear and there is space for new ones.

The blocks appear from the bottom and you have to move them like a shuffle game in order to link the same blocks with each other. This makes the game harder and more different from other games which are similar to Tetris.

Kaliko would like to release further games this year and for this they need help. They are currently seeking a number of talented individuals such as Amiga-programmers who have good knowledge of VP assembler, C or C++ as well as Amiga-programmers (680x0/PPC) who have sound knowledge of assembler, C or C++. They are also looking for creative game designers and talented 2D artists. If you want to contact them, just send an e-mail to info@kaliko.net. (sd) (Translation: sr)

On 9 February 2002 Adam Waldenberg released version 0.1.0b of WarpSCUMM, which is an Amiga port of ScummVM used to play LucasArts adventures such as Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island.

A custom implementation of a SDL library is used called WarpSDL.library, which supports CyberGfx (P96) and AHI and runs on 68k computers. A PPC version of and direct support for the Amiga audio chip 'Paula' is in the process of being developed.

ScummVM is an open source implementation of the LucasArts S.C.U.M.M. systems, which process game data files such as Maniac Mansion.

New Angband ports for Amiga
Hi There...

I've finally got around to finishing off all of my Amiga compiles, and they've all been uploaded. Details below.

News first!

68000 Support
I've decided to drop 68000 support - I'm going by the assumption that if a user has enough memory to play some of these variants, then they will have a better processor than the bog standard one. All variants will now be targetted for the 68020. Demands from some of the Zangband-based variants are increasing, and with the addition of Lua into Angband and Zangband, and inveitably into their offspring, then a basic unexpanded 68000 system just wouldn't be able to cope.

It's been a while since I've had any feedback from a 68000 user - if what I'm doing is such a bad move, please do not hesitate to contact me, and I can put together 68000-targetted executables.

New code
Well, not exactly new code, but all of the variants now use the same Amiga-specific code. Previously, Zangband and it's variants used the most up-to-date code, and Angband was still stuck with some old code that was several years old. Not any more - Angband now benefits from the new code too. I've altered some bits and pieces, but you probably won't notice much of a difference. The main difference is that Angband graphics now work the way they should do, along with masking. Also, if you use the Adam Bolt tiles, these will now work with all versions, not just the Zangband-based ones.

Lua
The Lua-based variants all compile and run successfully for the Amiga. I have compiled all of the Angband alpha releases (2.9.4, 2.9.5, 2.9.6, 2.9.6.alpha2 and 2.9.6alpha3) and all of the Zangband dev releases (2.7.0 Pre-release 1, 2.7.0 Pre-release 2, 2.7.0 Pre-release 3 and 2.7.0 final). If you're eager to take a look, the Zangband dev releases are available below, along with the versions with Shayne Steele's option and branding patches. Angband alphas remain unreleased.

Uploads
These have no long been done, so you'll have to wait for Robert to move them all to their respective locations.

Conglomoband 0.0.1 - conglomoband-001-ami.lha (1437K)

CyAngband 0.3.2 - cyangband-032-ami.lha (506K)

D11-Angband 1.1.0 - d11angband-110-ami.lha (580K)

EyAngband 0.4.0d - eyangband-040d-ami.lha (658K)

Gumband 2.2.0a - gumband-220a-ami.lha (784K)

Hengband 1.0.9r1
There's a little bit of a problem on the graphics for this variant - light doesn't seem to bahave the way you'd expect it to. You won't see the yellow glow around the player, and floors won't light up as you'd expect. Apart from this, it's OK. All lighting behaves properly in ASCII mode.

hengband-109r1-ami.lha (1414K)

NTAngband 0.2 - ntangband-02-ami.lha (1286K)

PernAngband 5.1.1 - pernangband-511-ami.lha (1612K)

UnAngband 0.4.8g - unangband-048g-ami.lha (830K)

Zangband 2.6.2 & Option Patch 1.6 & Branding Patch 1.3
Shayne Steele's patches have been included here - for further details of the patches, check out his site.

zangband-262o16b13-ami.lha (961K)

Zangband 2.7.0 Dev Release
Chance to check out the current stable dev release with Lua scripting.

zangband-270-ami.lha (1184K)

Zangband 2.7.0 Dev Release & Option Patch 1.7 & Branding Patch 1.4

Textviewer: EvenMore - new plugin
I have created a new Generic plugin. If all the plugins fail to recognise a binary file, this plugin will open the file and strip all lines ending with CR or LF.

This is a 'last resort' plugin, there will be files it will not work on due to formatting differences, but it can be used for files for some files which no plugins exist yet (I tested it on an Outlook 2000 email, worked with no glitches, works with a few glitches on some Mac text files).

Download now for free at the above link! (ps)

e.p.i.c. interactive: THE FEEBLE FILES Amiga-Version in production
THE FEEBLE FILES has now been completed for the Amiga and sent off to go into production. The finished game should be sent out to all those who have preordered the game within the next 10-12 days. THE FEEBLE FILES is a cartoon adventure from the makers of the famous Simon The Sorcerer series.

You are Feeble or rather you're a down trodden Grenelon who just happens to be called Feeble... Rendered animation, stereo sound and a plot of epic proportions take this adventure into a different galaxy. Witty and humerous but with dark undertones. THE FEEBLE FILES contains acts of betrayal, intrigue, revolution and even a bit of cross dressing. Add to that around 80 locations to visit, six thousand voice lines to interact with, there should be plenty to keep everyone happy without the aid of chemical supplements.

THE FEEBLE FILES for the Amiga comes on 2 CDs and contains both full english and german speech versions. The Amiga version requires either an Amiga with 68060, 4 MByte Gfxboard and 32 MByte RAM or an Amiga with PPC, 4 MByte Gfxboard and 32 MByte RAM.

You can find more information on THE FEEBLE FILES in the projects section under the title link. (ps)
