CVS 1.11.1p1 - AmigaOS port BUGFIX - update
CVS is a tool for programmers that remarkably simplifies the version control of source code. More known under Unix/Linux this port to AmigaOS can be of use for one or another.

Some days after the release of a new version of the AmigaOS port of CVS 1.11.1p1 with ssh there's a new bugfix update on the homepage of the AmigaOS CVS project after some bugreports.

Within this an important bug has been removed that could make it impossible at times to check in files in remote directories via pserver or ssh.

It is strongly advised to all users of this port to update to this new version. The latest version can, as always, be downloaded from http://amcvs.light-speed.de/. (ps) (Translation: wk)

Amiga.org: 3ivx for AmigaDE in development
The creator of the MPEG-4 Codec 3ivx has confirmed that an AmigaDE version of 3ivx is in the works. Christoph spoke with him sometime ago and the creator was well informed about AmigaDE which was not only surprising but a good sign of things to come. It is yet unknown when a version will be ready for release. (sd) (Translation: wk)

Psyria: new music piece
After a longer period the homepage of Psyria was yesterday updated again. A new music piece, "Uphold the law", is available for download.

Besides that Psyria is planning a second megamix out of the yet unreleased debut album "Out of my life". As the first megamix went down well Psyria would be pleased about feedback to see whether a second mix is in great demand at all.

Psyria is a music project, that is exclusively produced with the Amiga. (ps) (Translation: wk)

AmiWest 2001: first information in advance (update 2)
For the time being the AmiWest 2001 Amiga show is taking place in Sacramento (California). According first information AmigaOS for PPC, AmigaOS for x86 and AmigaOne hardware for November 2001 were announced. Detailed press material is said to follow until Wednesday.

Further details can be taken from this (completely uncut) AmiWest IRC log. As always has UGN made the resources for IRC chats during the show available. Also the obligatoric WebCam of UGN is already working, though the time shift has to be taken into account.

Amiga Active: New Amiga emulator for PC's
I just received the new "Amiga Active" reading about a new Amiga emulator for PC's using neither Windows nor Linux as it's OS base, but a not mentioned OS "which is not unalike the AmigaOS".

This emulator was tested by the editors on an 1.2 GHz Atholon, and is said to easily outshine everything, even the UAE JIT. It reaches multiple of the speed of the UAE and even of the speed of an 68060/50. Contrary to the UAE the AA emulation still doesn't work, thus one must widely abstain from games. But programs like Frogger or even Quake gave results embarrassing the performance of the PPC versions. The emulator reached their office near shutdown, name and programmer still are secret. Update: The Feeble Files for Amiga
Thomas Steiding of e.p.i.c. interactive entertainment GmbH wrote:
Last week we received a few more pre-orders for a possible Amiga port of the cartoon adventure The Feeble Files. At this time we have altogether 298 pre-orders, so 102 still are missing, which should be sent either to us (order@epic-interactive.com) or to a stockist like KDH Datentechnik, who participate in this project. This pre-order project will be valid thru 12. August 2001. If there will be less than 400 pre-orders until that date, unfortunately an Amiga version of The Feeble Files (and probably any further Amiga port by e.p.i.c.) will be impossible to be done.

Reminder note: The Feeble File requires an Amiga with a 4 MB graphics board, 32 MB of memory, and a 68060 OR a PPC CPU. The game costs 99,95 DM and will be shipping on 2 CD's with both German and English version. (ps) (Translation: mj)

Messenger: AmigAIM BETA Version 0.9428
Richard H. Poser released beta version 0.9428 of the AIM messenger AmigAIM. AmigAIM is a client to connect to the America Online Instant Messenger (AIM service). Following an extract from the program's history to take the changes from:

  • Modified handling of Context Menus in Buddy List Area
  • Online list - Selecting with Right Button...
    • Online Buddy Name: Will automatically select that name and then open the Online context menu
    • Offline Buddy Name: Does the same as above, but opens the Offline context menu
    • Anywhere Else: Context menu will reflect the already selected Buddy Name, if one is selected.
  • Setup list - Selecting with Right Button...
    • On Label or Buddy Name: Will automatically select that label/name and then open the context menu
    • Anywhere Else: Context menu will reflect the already selected Label/Buddy name
  • Modified Away, Online and Idle Time displays
  • Now displays time in Days, Hours and Minutes (If you actually get someone that idles for that long - I know someone that has idled for 2 days straight)
  • Found that warning display wasn't being handled correctly, as AIM sends out the value as a multiple of 10, such that 855 would equal 85.5. The display now calculates the correct value and rounds as necessary (Up, or down).

Amiga Security Site online
Marius ´Cyborg´ Schwarz wrote:
Due to problems regarding Aminet I decided to put the programs online directly. Additionally I've made some documents dealing with firewalling on the Amiga and security in general, thus the side went online that late.

Now on this website among other things there are the TCPScanner in an even better version than it was planned for Aminet, a tool to analyse firewall-logs to discover undesirable portscans. I did it without the possibility to directly strike back, since this wouldn't pay. There is an additional manual how to create meaningful log-files and the promised protection against the misuse of BlackIRC from outside.

Anybody wanting to make her/his Amiga more secure is welcome. (ps) (Translation: mj)
